ndreaas Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I prefer ETA over Fine Line, but they're both solid. Love how ETA changes up towards the middle. But can we appreciate how well produced and mixed these songs are!? This is stellar
enchanted0 Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 They could’ve more polished but I actually really like them
josesuxx Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I feel safest in the silence And I'm so goddamn sick of fighting The truth keeps roaring like a lion Yeah, that'll be the cross I'll die on The years keep on dragging, I'm at the end of my rope The noose gets tighter and tighter, I'm tasting blood in my throat Don't ******* call me a fighter, don't ******* call me a joke You have no ******* idea, trust me, you'll never know
The7thStranger Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I can't get over Eat the Acid. She really gave me everything I wanted.

Blue Monday Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Both songs are not what I was expecting and while I can see why some might not like them, they work for me. The writing on Fine Line is incredible and I love the mixing/production on both
Edibles. Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 The synth line in Eat the Acid sounds like The District Sleeps Alone by The Postal Service
Edibles. Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Neither of these were first listen material, I don’t necessarily get that part. Maybe it’ll make sense in context of the album
gloamingtheplain Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I imagine this is the direction she was partially going in with the Flaming Lips album. A raw and rough sound.

gloamingtheplain Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Honestly I think this album will be a listen in one go vs favourite track type thing. A full concept album. We shall see.
WiredBrain Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Great lyrics but overall such a bore. Hopefully the album has some bops.
Superbitch Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I can see why some love it and some don’t. Idk where I stand yet but hmmm idk. But glad she’s making whatever she wants to make.
Dolce Vita Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 fine line is incredible and lyrically one of her best songs. the pain in her voice is heartbreaking
Achilles. Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 Great lyrics, vocals, production, but not sure they have much replay value. I’m really excited for the album though!
Kevin Parker Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 (edited) Okay at first I liked Eat the Acid more but now I prefer Fine Line. Not by much though, I find great stuff in both of them. Eat the Acid has a cool concept, the "hook" gets stuck in your head and it's pleasantly disturbing. Fine Line has some really great lyrics and the sound design is so trippy. The outro is extremely similar to the song Mary Magdalene by FKA twigs. Check it out if you haven't heard it. However, there are a few things that are making me unable to truly click with the songs, and that's the mixing and some of the production. I know it's an artistic choice, so I don't need anyone to tell me I "do not get it", but I simply can't connect with the extremely rough production -- Rick Rubin has produced some "garage-y" stuff but always with an expensive sound (recently The Strokes, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers). These sound rather dry, they lack a certain "depth", and even her voice sounds EQ'd to the point of having no lows. They truly do sound like voice messages (Eat the Acid bridge is criminal). How about some reverb, or harmonies? They would make the songs even more impactful. Not a fan of the main synth throughout Eat the Acid either. As for Fine Line, I like everything except her voice; not only the mixing/lack of vocal production but the delivery itself. Why the rapping? I know I sound too negative right now; I do enjoy the music, it's just that I've been waiting for her to pursue this sound for so long and now this is anticlimatic. bearman Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 (edited) Rick Rubin is kinda known for his super dry vocals, he basically invented that. I think we've become so accustomed to super airy vocal production with lots of reverb and delay and I personally find the approach here super refreshing. It's like we actually hear her for the first time and she's not drowned in effects and tuning. As for Fine Line she's not 'rapping' but the whole point of the song is that she's tired and ready to give up ... so she sounds like that. High Road was a mixing disaster but I think these are perfectly mixed, rich and layered. There are like 12 sound engineers credited on these songs so I'm kinda inclined to believe that they know what they're doing. Edited April 28, 2023 by bearman

Taylor fanboy Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 The album became more intriguing, and I actually like the songs, but I don’t see these as good “singles”. They’re missing HOOKS to capture the audience. It’s all about drama for now, I hope there’s a big song in the album. Considering this is her last contracted album, I guess the focus is more on “quality” and the kiss off message.
