This was ok, Naomi is phenomenal. This and the first movie are rip offs of Blumhouse's Truth or Dare and It Follows.

Spoiler

I'm mad cause Kyle Gallner dies in the beginning but I'm even more irritated now because they show his death in the trailer :rip:

So, this was phenomenal. I was totally captivated by the first part two years ago, I sympathized with Rose and wished her victory over the entity. Unfortunately - or rather thank God - it didn't happen and here we have a sequel. Already the opening scene, which takes place 6 days after the incident at Rose's house, is excellently filmed and it continues like this until the end of the film, certainly more effectively managed camera and sound design. Also a very good script, the dialogues are not stupid and the cherry on top was Naomi's performance, from the trailers her acting seemed a little amateurish and I didn't feel that the role suited her, but she pleasantly surprised me. Despite the praise, I also have minor complaints:

Spoiler

The whole story basically didn't go anywhere, there is even less searching about the entity than in the first movie, the CGI effects were not good - the entity in its "full beauty" was laughable, it was much better handled in the first movie, if the overgrown cat stripped of its skin was supposed to scare me, it didn't work out very well. Speaking of the end, it was incredibly predictable, I was really hoping that Finn would somehow play more with it, but then again, I understand there had to be some lead-up to the sequel. At least the switch from the freezer to the stage was perfect, that really surprised me. I also don't understand why they didn't show Skye killing herself with that mic at all, why was the camera on the audience the whole time? They could have gotten more out of it... I was also bothered by a few illogicalities, for example how it transferred from Joel to Lewis, or why the fans were cheering with joy when Skye was screaming in horror for help, but maybe even that was just an illusion. In this film, it's not clear what is reality and what is a mindfuck of the entity. 4/5

This movie was really intense. I really enjoyed seeing the development of the main character and while the first one was amazing I prefer the second one in terms of how it progressed throughout.

if there is a third one I really hope the creator takes his time developing another masterpiece and also that no one else takes over since he has signed to do the possession remake

The absolute WORST trash of the year. No words how bad this was. How do you go from Smile 1 to SMELL 2????

No words, left the cinema so angry.

This HAS to be trolling. If you liked the first film there's no way you could possibly hate the second film like that :toofunny3:

So this time, most of the movie isn't real and just a projection of the entity? Cause basically from her friend coming to visit until the end, it was all fake and made up...that's the part I didn't really like cause at least Smile 1 was more rooted in reality.

Watched this couple of days ago! I enjoyed it a lot. Loved how they implemented the Popstar idea on it (reminded me Marry Me in horror lol).

Also, the soundtrack is AMAZING! I'm floored. lol

Spoiler

Lewis witnessed how Joel killed the drug dealer, that's also a way to transfer the curse. So, Joel was actually free of it in the last minutes, that's what makes his death even more tragic.

I'm not sure, i thought just everything that happened after she killed her mother was an illusion. But in the final scene, she wears the outfit that she didn't want very early on in the movie, so who knows.

So when did the "dreaming" start. I thought it may have started when she killed her mom but that doesn't make sense since the guy from

the gala is also at the end. Which would mean that entire sequence wasn't real.

Masterclass in acting

Masterclass in directing

The only thing I didn't like is the end. It reeks of studio involvement because now the story can't be about one person going insane. If it's happening to hundreds of thousands then it's so impersonal now.

Spoiler

I mean the whole point is this demon completely warps reality so who's the say. It's the easiest way to make excuses and cover up plot holes lol

Spoiler

Nothing about the ending screams studio involvement lmfao if that was the case we wouldn't have even gotten a sequel cause the monster would've been defeated and at most this would've been a prequel. And also not true they can still makes this insanity trip personal. Considering theirs teens and kids in the audience chances are some may be present with parents. Following a family in part 3 kind of like how they do in a quiet place they can easily cover generational trauma as a topic.

I love how you have no argument as to how this was garbage compared to the first one, you're just repeating the same thing over and over. This film has the almost exact same structure as the first film, it doesn't make any sense for you to hate it like that. Once again, this has to be trolling, there's no way anyone could think like that :rip:

You're comparing apples and oranges here, those two films could not be more different than each other if they tried. Just because they fall under the umbrella of "horror" doesn't make you should compare them :toofunny3:

Big shoutout once again to Charlie Sarroff (the DP, who is just going absolutely ******* WILD in this), Elliot Greenberg (editor) and Cristobal Tapia de Veer (score) for once again elevating this beyond commercial trash. Easily better than the first one.

Fair enough, i see what you mean! I loved both films, they're both great in their own way. They just shouldn't even be compared to begin with, they don't go for the same vibe :michael:

I wonder if that person would say the same thing about Terrifier 3 or if they would just say that about Smile 2 though :rip:

I liked it much more than the first (for which it felt the trailer was giving everything the movie had). Directing is great, DP is great, I could tell the ending by a mile but still enjoyed the turns it took to get there. Love that Tragedy performance, like really well done. Gorier and... funnier?

And of the coolest scene in a long time with the dancers in her apartment. That was such a vibe and hyptonic.

I'm seriously sick and tired of people saying Smile is just a copy of It Follows, just because the overall story is similar doesn't mean it's a copy. Ultimately the stories are quite different in their themes and execution, anyone saying otherwise is just not paying attention. The Smile movies have commentary about trauma that It Follows doesn't have.
