yeah there is build up for something but no release

 

that chorus is so good tho

but yeah it is missing something. a killer bridge -> thumping beat in a final chorus might have made this amazing.

 

the original is a club banger so idk how they thought they could make this work without at LEAST bringing in a strong thumping bass for the final chorus, it feels like you're waiting for a drop that never comes

Agreed!! I'm glad it hit at least 3 mins in this 2 minute singles era, but it's definitely missing a bridge or a triumphant chorus.

 

Dr. Luke is known for his final choruses and this one sounds like a bridge/chorus that never fully drops.

pretty creative sonic choice by the producer(s) imo.

 

i really appreciate the suspense of relief that that false build up gives to the song. keeps us on edge. it's super interesting to the ear. there's a constant teasing that something BIG is about to come. but the 'release' never comes (in the way we expect)

 

there's a sense of mystery to the song. like you're caught halfway between a dance club and its shadowy backroom.

The trap wasn’t the problem
