Spotify confirms autoplay payola; artists who do it get lower royalties

And for the people coming for Die for you Remix, the autoplay streams started last friday so they didn't count for the first week when it reached #1. Those   streams will count for the second week of the remix

I highly suspect Spotify benefits financially from this arrangement (at least at face value), not the artist. Otherwise I don’t see why they would offer it.

 

Im pretty sure they're making money from this. No company would spend time building this feature without return.

 

There is nothing nefarious about this the way some ATRLers think. Its essentially just another form of x-deal, they give you streams/followers for certain cost. That's been around in any industry

 

Anyway, Harem is correct. Royalty money is peanuts compared to the exposure which is invaluable. Struggling and/or midrange artist, they don't care about streams. They care about a few thousands of listeners their music will reach who may check them out in their festival tours, or local gigs. Which gives them a fighting chance in making a good career.

Yep. It is a good feature for smaller artists. From a chart perspective however it definitely should be given less weight. But I don't think spotify will ever reveal who's paying.
