Green Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Billboard will probably stop counting them or they will give them the same weight of the programmed streams like Pandora.
Green Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 And for the people coming for Die for you Remix, the autoplay streams started last friday so they didn't count for the first week when it reached #1. Those streams will count for the second week of the remix

OrgVisual Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 That's why some songs are so high on Spotify yet N/A on AM

simmnfierzig Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 So Taylor will never do it. She's not accepting lower royalties

chaneloberlin Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 I feel like this exact thread gets made every 4-5 months
Hurem Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 Who cares about lower royalties when you'll get millions of extra streams?

Then, maybe, the artist will be able to build a following to create more organic streams for their catalog. I highly suspect Spotify benefits financially from this arrangement (at least at face value), not the artist. Otherwise I don’t see why they would offer it. Im pretty sure they're making money from this. No company would spend time building this feature without return. There is nothing nefarious about this the way some ATRLers think. Its essentially just another form of x-deal, they give you streams/followers for certain cost. That's been around in any industry Anyway, Harem is correct. Royalty money is peanuts compared to the exposure which is invaluable. Struggling and/or midrange artist, they don't care about streams. They care about a few thousands of listeners their music will reach who may check them out in their festival tours, or local gigs. Which gives them a fighting chance in making a good career.

As you said, for some artists (mostly big ones who are done with exposure/concerned with maintaining fans) the royalties will matter, whereas exposure is more important for others. Yep. It is a good feature for smaller artists. From a chart perspective however it definitely should be given less weight. But I don't think spotify will ever reveal who's paying. The song is truly INORGANIC at its core. Payola driven. Keep delusional and sit.
