Taylena Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 The thread title just like the concept of "monthly listeners" is so misleading. Rihanna currently has the most UNIQUE listeners (basically what monthly listeners really means) but she's not the most listened female artist. And when people say that playlisting has a big influence is because playlisting helps with a bigger reach to Spotify's users which in turn means more unique listeners even if one person just listened to 30 seconds of a song for a whole month.

I mean... you guys need to be creative when it comed to dissing Rih's numbers... but c'mon... at least make some sense https://chartmasters.org/why-spotifys-monthly-listeners-stat-is-irrelevant/ It’s all explained here.
FENTY. Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Swifties were celebrating just weeks ago this achievement and now it’s irrelevant
EliteNaviShit Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 (edited) the tired playlist excuse it’s not rih’s fault that people don’t jump out of embarrassment when her hits pop up on shuffle, hence the playlisting. i didn’t know what that monthly listener chart meant up until now but now that i know, it’s still not irrelevant? i would say it’s a better indication of current relevancy than actual # of streams. we all know how some other artists and their fans like to mass release, mass buy and mass stream. this basically shows what the actual world listens to swifties do NOT worry though. i’m sure taylor is fuming right now over this irrelevant achievement and you WILL get some midnight demos (daytime version) (taylors version) or something and she will be back on top real soon Edited March 6, 2023 by EliteNaviShit
Yuanyu Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 We are in 2023 and people are still confusing monthly listens with streams, it's mind-boggling.
Relampago. Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 Monthly listeners is still impressive, why are people pretending it’s not? Being able to reach such a massive audience with an almost decade old discography is incredible.
ninasayers Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 The fact she has the second highest amount of listeners and her last album came out 7 years ago (and was released very early on in the streaming era) is just mind boggling any way you spin it.

Baby Judas Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I'm surprised that the #2 overall is only at 80M-ish, meanwhile the #1 is at 105M+.. The gap.. Great feat for Riri.
Trent W Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I didn’t know people came for monthly listeners Isn’t it more legit? Like streams can be easily manipulated by the same person playing 200 times a day the same artist. Monthly listeners are actually to point different individuals listening to an artist. So Rihanna is indeed the most streamed artist.
rihannafan Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 As evidenced by previous debacles, some people's total streams are inflated by streaming hubs in Brazil among other countries. Monthly listeners is the best way to quantify how many people an artist's music reaches.

So it favours either artists who have one huge current hit or ones with many hits across a lot of distinct playlists.

Needed Me Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 When it comes to Rihanna, it's always "irrelevant"! It becomes pathological, move on....

No, not really. Wild Thoughts, Live Your Life, Run This Town, All of the Lights etc are not featured on her page so they don’t count. TIWYCF wasn’t counting until very recently when she got tagged as lead artist and now streams count for both Rihanna and Calvin

Bang Up Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 What were her stats pre-SB? She's always had a high listener count and recurrent streams... But either way, she hasn't released music in such a long time and the fact that her recurrent streams are so big will always be impressive.

The best way to quantify how many real people an artist's music reaches is through touring. Unfortunately, Rihanna is not very good at that.

YellowRibbon Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 I've always found the whole concept of "Monthly Listeners" d*mb. Who cares if someone listened to one of your singles for 45 seconds while putting a playlist on shuffle mode. That person was not really searching for your music specifically. I find the actual number of streams than an artist gets more impressive because it is harder to build a big audience that can help you get a long music career. Everyone here knows WHY so many artists that reach 50-60-70-80M monthly listeners struggle to sell out tour, they eventually have to move into other business ventures. OT: congrats to Ms Avon for that achievement.
