Ya lake swimming is scary these days tbh :dancehall: Chlorine swim pools should be fine. I think ocean water too because of the salt?

Yeah, amoeba can't live in ocean water. Many other microorganisms can tho :gaycat6:

Y’all these have been around for ever and you are only at risk if it goes up your nose and passes your mucus membrane. If you use a Netipot or something of that nature you are advise to boil the water first or only used distilled water for this reason.

Ok but like can’t the water get in your nose when you’re showering? That’s happened to me before.

Can you also get it from that? like what’s good

Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s only in bodies of water that aren’t moving, like lakes. It’s kinda nice in Australia they have signs that warn you brain eating bacteria can be in a certain body of water :skull:

@Espresso  can you provide us some more details? Can water entering our eyes also be a possibility to get this? when showering if the water enters your nostrils, is it possible to get this? what about washing our eye out in the sink, will it enter our eye sockets and into our brains?

im only asking you because you are kinda the resident ATRL extreme fear disease thread maker that sends us into tailspins. let’s get some context please for our sake :heart2:

This is one of the things I’m most scared of :skull: I pretty much quit swimming all together because of it. It’s one of those things where if you get it you’re basically already dead.

Don't live life that way! Any of us can die at any moment from an endless number of reasons, and I promise you a brain-eating amoeba is very far down the list
