It’s not a problem of it being too soon for early predictions, but rather the Hot 100 chart of the previous week being released too late. The tracking week ended on Thursday evening. There’s no need to wait until Monday to release the results.

I know what you mean by it being a remix that pushed it to number one during another huge hits reign, but they’re very different circumstances still.

 

DFY is over 5 years old and peaked as high as #6, where S&M was only 5 months old and I believe hit #2 prior to the remix.
 

Flowers was a lead single and debuted at #1 as a solo song. Where as E.T. was released as a promo single originally, then later as a 4th single. And it also had a remix that outperformed the original it’s entire chart run since it was released.

Exactly! And like 5-7 times out of the year it’s released after Monday even due to holidays. The late article release is such a mess…

It's the same situation of any MPG, getting forgettable #1s while their biggest songs don't.
