Because she did the Superbowl half-time show.

She's only the 3rd female artist to do this in the last 50 years (Taylor & Whitney being the other 2).

Neither of last year's 5 headliners, The Weeknd, Shakira, JLo, Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, Gaga, Coldplay, Katy, Bruno, Beyoncé, Madonna or The BEP achieved this after their Super Bowl performance. But y'all can continue to pretend she had the same boost as previous performers.

Sorry but these kind of threads are SO annoying :rip:

They are.  However, I’m going it to prove a point to that other fandom whom have a lot to say about Rih’s success and think their fav is the only person capable of doing something. :lakitu:

You should be asking why is TTT even there and not Rated R.

It's truly her most underrated album, TTT can stay in the trash :deadbanana4:

They're either acting slow on purpose or they truly lack brain cells

Not Taylor doing it for 17 weeks, she truly makes it look so easy :gaycat6:

OT: Congratulations to Rihanna :clap3:

So she is ONLY the 7th artist to achieve this. And ONLY the 3rd woman.

Wait the way they made it seem like everyone who does the SB gets the boost and most of these people did it pre-2020 :deadbanana4:

But ATRL told me that every SB headliner had the same albums/singles boost!

Wait you’re right, I meant to type 10% of the Top 100 albums, but 20% of the top 50 albums sounds even better :jonny:

All her albums are drastically under certified. She is probably close to a diamond album with GGGB. Last cert was 6x platinum in 2018. And Anti probably already at 6x platinum even though last time she was cert in 2018 it was 3x platinum.

Care to elaborate on why previous halftime performers failed to do the same?

Why? Because we are starving for new Riri music :weeps:

Bruno - only has 3 albums total, there was numerically no way for him to do this

Katy - only had 3 albums out at the time of her doing the Super Bowl, also numerically impossible

Gaga - had 5 albums out but 2 of them didn’t have any real GP hits

Coldplay - they’re bigger outside of the US than they are in it, but also they’re stronger at touring than they are at charting

Shakira & Jlo - don’t exactly have a ton of hit singles, and they’re both in their 50’s, so unfortunately streaming does not work in their favor for the most part (even though shakira does very well outside the US with it.)

The 5 old folks from last year - I’m sorry but none of them are popular with the streaming generation :rip: Only Kendrick and Eminem stood a chance but Kendrick only had 3 albums out at the time and Eminem wasn’t gonna do much more damage than he already does

Like, there’s an explanation for everyone. Rih is the biggest hit maker of this Millenium by a long shot and streaming rewards that.

Bruno (and Katy) also have a ton of hits but they’re all condensed into very few albums. Both only had 3 albums out at the time of their halftime shows and for Katy, streaming wasn’t even 1/10th as big as it is today.

I mean I agree with all this but Eminem, Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Prince, Diana Ross, and others all had over 5 albums when they did the show. This is the only time during the streaming era that 5 albums have charted after a performance, probably the first time ever? I think it mostly just comes to Rih having huge hits on multiple albums which isn't as easy as people try to make it on this site. I think the only person who would be capable of getting a big boost like this or a bigger one is Taylor but it's clear from the stats that this is all because that Rihanna's hits have continued to resonate with the public (her always being in the most streamed acts even pre-SB with no new music) than anything else. Not everyone has 8 albums with real and certified hits on them.

I was told that her performance was PANNED. And months ago, I was also told that she wouldn’t chart multiple albums if she was active because she isn’t an album artist. Was I lied to? :lakitu:

And where exactly is the correlation?

There are movies with 10% score on Rotten Tomatoes that were extremely successful at the box office :rip:

Real critics loved that performance. Rotten Tomatoes score is based on REAL criticism and not pop forum opinions so that show would certainly not get a 10%. Again proving just how delusional and out of touch most on this forum are :deadbanana4:

No I agree the biggest component in all of this is that Rihanna has the most massive hits out of anyone, spread out across enough albums that she was always bound to have the best streaming era Super Bowl boost. Anyone who was assuming Rih wouldn’t be able to see such a large boost  before, during, or after the SB was delusional.

Critics and the public have also praised the performance so it was both a critical and commercial success
