Suddenly all the straight girls felt comfortable using homophobia as ‘humor’ and the gays didn’t check them. Gay men also get a lot of hate from the rest of the LGBT community for some reason, so it’s like it’s ‘ok’ to hate gay men, but not other members of the community. Agreed Gay men are the “easy target”, especially among the queer community. Make a joke about the other alphabets though, and you’re suddenly an awful intolerant person.
Taylucifer Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) i’ve noticed it too… there’s also more hostility towards the trans community. i saw a lot of people making fun of Brianna Ghey, the trans girl who got murdered saying nasty **** on Tiktok comments like “good, let’s get them off this planet”, “he got what he deserved”, “this is great news”, etc. i feel like we took 1 foot forward and 5 steps back Edited February 17, 2023 by Taylucifer

cockatoo Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I understand what you're saying, but I feel like a lot of those comments come from a place of ignorance/trying to be funny rather than hate
JustLikeHoney Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 It's literally not, but it's now ok for the very little minority of homophobes to be vocal about it and promote other social injustices in the name of "free speech."
JustLikeHoney Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) And the second part. I think men are more gay/bi than they think they are. They try so hard to disprove it. I think women are less gay/bi than they say they are. IMO In a group of "straight" guy friends, if one of them has amazing cakes, the other guys will spend the entire day grabbing his cakes as a "joke." Queen Of Slay Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 not even so much homophobia.. lets discuss the TRANSPHOBIA RISE
Beyonnaise Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Straight girls feel much more homophobic than they were five years ago, it's strange. They think it's the funniest and most savage burn in the world to call their ex gay, "fruity" or "zesty. Like hun, maybe he just didn't like you
Rev8 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Those are jokes and they are just trying to be edgy u know how teenage girls are (it's worrisome when grown women do it ofc, but them acting like a kid is worrisome on itself ) Also, a lot of the jokes they are using CAME from the LGBTQ community so.. it's kind of the gays fault for constantly acting homophobic as a Joke it was cute at first, but it's too much nowadays (like u have also noticed) but yea, some jokes turn into reality and sometimes even these dumb kids dont tell the difference

Kept making jokes about my boyfriend and I at our expense implying we’re pervs or after threesomes with any guy we meet. Cut those ******* off… and the worst part is one of them is an LGBT woman This too, on New Years Eve I had a group of drunk girls my bf and I met that night ask us who was the bottom Was so awkward. And then they were saying "the closet is glass" and "fruity" to describe a straight guy (who does not seem gay at all and is a gymbro douchebag) I know there's always been messy people but I never had this happen to me in 2016-2020. I've also noticed that a lot of these same women identify as bi or queer (but then only date men) and think that gives them a pass to mock or "be in on the jokes" of gay male sexuality. No ma'am. They're also the first to say things like "gay men are actually just as misogynistic as straight men" which can be true (because there's obviously horrible gays and nobody denies that), but then they choose not to acknowledge that a lot of straight girls can be homophobic too. BlondGuts Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I mean look at how the word “sus” came to be. When you see a comment on a TikTok saying “that’s kind of sus bro…..” Sus as in short for suspicious as in it’s suspicious that you are acting in a way that isn’t traditionally 100% masculine ie. YOURE GHEY But hey at least it beats being called the *** huh
fais_2311 Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Homophobia, yup I still can see it but not as much as transphobia and hate towards non-binary. And some the hatred even came from the gen-z’s lgb community Disgusting
Delirious Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 TikTok is now plagued with Millennials and boomers not just Gen Z....the women in the OP is probably 30 with a filter so it's expected

I roll my eyes at millennials who act like Gen Z are supposed to be wiser and more tolerant. Like, at the end of the day they're teenagers, how advanced are they supposed to be? And just like with millennials and generations before them, they will become more conservative over time. Anyways, "Ironic homophobia" is the new homophobia. Maybe less aggressive, but definitely still plays on stereotypes. Online gays encourage and perpetuate it, so women and straight boys feel comfortable joining in usually. I'm no saint, because I love calling guys **** over the simplest things. Its funny Millennials are actually the first generation to not get more conservative over time https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/financial-times-millennials-conservatives-age-b2253902.html?amp
fauxtography Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Yeah the terminally online "activist" crowd really convinced people that gays are the most privileged people on earth and its okay to be homophobic in exchange.

From the straight girls it quickly jumps to straight boys. My nephew is 11 (the youngest end of gen z) and watching him hang out with his friends is wild. They’re way more homophobic than anyone I knew at that age. They use zesty and fruity super frequently and it’s always paired with over the top performative disgust. If it’s not screaming it’s just a quiet look of disgust. It is homophobic. They arrived there through sus and jokes online but it’s the same **** as before. I know people say Gen Z is the most queer generation at 15%, but the other 85% is going to react to that. They’re not all allies, especially when you move out of cities. My nephew moved to a smaller town and picked up homophobia within 6 months. I can’t imagine being a queer kid now and having parents and teachers join in on it because they think they’re being fun and using TikTok lingo. When I was that age, everyone was fake supportive to seem cool, even the kids. Being openly homophobic was corny.
Alaska. Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 You must be young if you think Gen Z is homophobic just because they say silly comments like that on tiktok 10 years ago a lot of us would be harassed every single day of our lives if we expressed ourselves like we do now

I graduated in 2011 and went to a fairly liberal school so being gay wasn’t a huge deal in HS but in middle school around 2005-2008 it was hell. Everyone was homophobic, even TV to an extent was still behind the curve.
Relampago. Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) I think it’s just a result of Gen Z being more accepting of homosexuality and feeling a lot more comfortable to play around with it. It’s not quite homophobia in a hateful way, but harmful nonetheless. I don’t think it’s a huge of an issue as it’s made out to be by OP, and a swift clock would put the girls in their place. Overall, it just needs to be addressed and it’ll fade away I believe. EDIT: Actually reading through more replies, y’all are kind of making points. I still don’t think it’s quite as violent as homophobia when I was younger, but there is this sense that gays have finally become equal post-same-sex marriage legalization in the US and I think it’s convinced people that it’s okay to make homophobic jokes and comments for that reason. I think the thing is that I don’t really experience too much of this in my friend group and if anything is said I drag real quick and it stops. I’m not sure how it is with the youth of today but I kind of thought it was better than before but maybe not Edited February 17, 2023 by Relampago.
ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted February 17, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted February 17, 2023 Yeah I still think they’re better than previous generations. It’s just that we can often see gen z as the “woke” generation (not really 100% true) and always think generations are more progressive as time goes on, so the dissonance makes it more noticeable maybe. I def think a lot of chronically online people are sorta homophobic without realizing it but that’s a niche. The rest are more or less homophobic in the good old fashioned traditional way
