idk if manic is the right word to use lol what attracted people to her was the crunk. she had an edge to her. their was a presence and control with her musical output that has been missing since beauty marks. jump is cute. rooted is cute. better thangz is cute. but ciara is suppose to be fire not cute. like she's suppose to make you wanna bump not shimmy if that makes any sense

I get what your saying....alot of her recent music is just....basic. Nothing intriguing or exciting.

I will go to war with Ciara stans cause some of y’all are delusional and accepting the bare minimum from her. THATS really the problem and what has lead me to not put up with her bs anymore. That’s why she keeps giving you the bare minimum cause y’all are accepting it from her. Y’all hype her up when deep down inside you’re not really enjoying the **** she doing. Then months later y’all are mad and wondering why none of her songs are charting or catching on. 

 

This whole era has been a sloppy and bare minimum mess. 
 

she really fumbled the bag with Jump because before it was released she had MONTHS of hype and GP support especially when she dropped the cover of Sport Illustrated. That was the perfect time to drop a single and she didn’t. Instead she kept teasing the song with that annoying 30 second strategy which killed the whole hype she had going for her. By the time the song dropped everyone had moved on and practically heard a good portion of the song. Then she also works with an unknown rap group. Like girl are you serious!!!  

 

Jump was tacky, dated and underwhelming. Such waste of a budget on such a tacky stupid song that should of been kept in 2006. The video looks like a collage of random photo shoots thrown together and doesn’t have any cohesiveness to it. Looks unfinished too. The dancing isn’t even that great. Fire Jamaica or whoever she keeps working with because the stale choreography isn’t impressing anyone anymore. I know Ci can dance and actually put some technique but whoever she keeps working with is not bringing that out of her. 

Then she disappears. No promo and then out of nowhere starts with the teasing again. This time Better Thangs. Which I ended up liking. That song had a little bit of a chokehold on me in the fall but then the video dropped. A tacky cheap soft choreo mess. Once again no promo and once again she dissapears. 
 

then she drops ANOTHER snippet which turned out to be this horrible “Da Girls” we have now but this was MONTHS ago. Once again sloppy and confusing. Then she starts dropping snippets of Winning. Once again with the damn snippets. While Winning sounds tacky it sounded like it was her best shot at actually charting on the Billboard Hot 100. She then performs the damn song at New Years which was the perfect opportunity to release the song. What does she does? Didsapears once again.

 

then months later now we have “Da Flop”. 
Which prior to release she kept teasing ONCE AGAIN. Tired ass annoying strategy. All for her to have the audacity to hop on Instagram and say she dropping the video 1 hour before the song dropped. The video IS cute but not “I need to chart on the Hot 100” cute. 
 

the point is that nothing she ever does or had done lately has had any cohesiveness. It’s almost like she’s lost confidence in herself and is scared to release an album. Ciara is not the artist I once loved and while she is a great human she’s lost me as a music fan. 
 

the only thing that could win me back is if she drops a sickening album without bs from the jump and I just don’t see that happening.

jump was fine. other than a few unnecessary scenes. she served probably one of the best music of the year. like she has a legitimate legacy and influence as an artist, entertainer, performer on the likes tinashe, normani, kehlani, chloe, latto link up with these girls and DO SOMETHING!

Since Jump, I've pretty much been on this wave. I'll always root for her and will her another "Level Up" or "Body Party" moment of random success, but she is proving that it really wasn't the label's fault with some of her previous mishaps. She definitely needs to cede control of the creative direction of her music because her ear and that of the team she keeps working with (Theron?) is clearly not working. She needs dedicated music management too (IIRC she's managed by Russell's team). That's the relatively easy part. 

 

She also needs a label and that's where it gets sticky. Level Up was a fluke and probably gassed her up to think she could work indie after Warner shelved her without releasing anything. She proved she didn't have the right infrastructure in place when the Beauty Marks album became her biggest flop ever. It performed so badly that I was convinced there was some kind of admin issue. Like, did they not submit all of the numbers cus....wtf :-S

 

Now she's put out so many duds that what major label would be incentivized to work with her? Even the Uptown deal is now a bust (though I suspect they may have been the issue as they don't have the infrastructure to push an act adequately themselves).

 

It aches me to say, it really is feeling like it may finally be time to "let go" of her potential for any kind of impactful redemption era. She's most optimized as a "celebrity" these days.

yeah it just doesn't make sense. she still has IT. she just needs to right music, management and promotion. people actually care and like her as a person. we just need the music to do the same as well. fantasy ride was definitely fumbled because of the label for sure. basic instinct i think was her doing and not wanting to go with the times but i remember her urban fanbase being very vocal about not wanting her to go pop so she was ****** either way. with self titled she found a perfect medium but then future came into the picture, she got pregnant and then everything was ******. jackie came and the era was cut short due to another pregnancy right when she was making a commercial comeback. tire marks came she got another hit by some miracle but then album was botched on arrival and then she got pregnant again like sis. at this point she needs a writing camp. i don't want her writing if she's not inspired. and she needs to work with new people because everyone involved is way too comfortable with serving mid ****. we want CIARA not C-ERROR

And I agree with you and @Cbreezy she's been VERY uninspired lately and it shows. Jackie was the beginning of all this mess, something happened after she scrapped all the work she did with Future behind the project. She's never been known for releasing musical masterpieces, but her albums and music were at least interesting and solid. Jackie and Beauty Marks felt bland, just collections of songs with no real vision behind the project. This project is doubling down on that concept and it's so blatant. 

 

She needs to stop staggering these releases. BM prob would have sold more had it came out during Level Up's run. They clearly had some kind of rollout in-mind because she dropped a song in July, August, and September.... then radio silence. Album shoulda dropped in September. 

 

She has ZERO buzz atm, so what's she gonna do now?  She's released 3 songs from what's probably another 10 track album, and this def won't be the one to launch the project... so onto single #4

her touring with bruno mars she should've secured a collab and given us a love sex and magic 2.0 future is not to blame. once she became mrs.wilson that's when we lost her. music doesn't seem to be her passion but moreso a hobby. she seems to be more focused on her celebrity status and creating a brand like a couple of other popstars we know of. we needed if anything that winning song to drop because this ain't it. just based on how negative the reactions have been i've avoided hearing it and people are cutting her up on twitter.

I do kinda feel like everything she’s put out this era has been missing a female rap artist feature so a remix for Da Girls (if she absolutely insists on sticking with this song) is probably for the best. 
 

Timing has never been on her side because I’m still trying to understand why Better Thangs was released during Autumn…it’s giving Harleys in Hawaii weird release schedule (which is kinda the sound Ciara should have been going for btw).

This is def more of a 5 Chile! Don’t be modest! Any SoundCloud rapper can create a song like this in less than a day! She needs to stop working with that loud mouth Sebastian from the little mermaid crab (cough cough Theron whatever his name is) and work with producers that are gonna bring some true edge and progression to her urban sound. She needs a Mike will made it moment (not work with him cause his stuff is dated now) but she needs to really get some good writers and sound engineers to give us something of substance from a lyrical standpoint and soundscape.

It wasn’t cheap. She def had a budget. The editing and direction are just terrible. Like the beach scene. It’s actually quite upsetting because Dave Meyers has directed some of the best visuals as of late and it almost feels like he gave Ciara the short end of the stick. 
 

This budget could of been used for a much better song . Especially since it took so long to edit just to give the result it gave.
