ATRL Moderator madonnas Posted February 16, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted February 16, 2023 Janelle Is a huge corny nerd and I think songs like this just don’t bring out any of her strengths. She’s way better with big concepts and artsy fartsy stuff. but this song *is* better than the snippet let on. The verses are good. It’s just the chorus being a non event / weak.
zeta Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Holy, this is soooo good, I'm already obssesed.

Navyofbadgals Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Possibly her weakest chorus ever she can do so much better. Holding out hope for the second single
Guilherme Make Love Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 It´s a very good chill song, i don´t get the complains It just doesn´t really screams lead single but whatever, it´s not like it was gonna be a hit anyway I would be pissed if the whole album is chill relax vibes, but one track is actually nice to hear
Guilherme Make Love Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 Janelle Monáe Glides Triumphantly Over It All on “Float” In her tensely coiled body language, you could sense a determination powerful enough to power a city grid. She’s a marvel to behold, but it's also a relief when she relaxes, like on her new single “Float.” In the best sense, the song feels like a one-take freestyle, complete with a teasing hook (“I don’t walk, now I float”), easeful switch-ups between singing and rapping, and some endearingly clunky bars (“I done had several epiphanies/Over some breakfast at Tiffany’s”) thrown out over heavy-lidded 808s and oozing brass from Seun Kuti and Egypt 80. There’s nothing at stake in this song, nothing to prove, just the sound of a top-tier talent doing a little victory dance. https://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/janelle-monae-float/

Sscorpionn Posted February 16, 2023 Posted February 16, 2023 This is an addictive carefree bop. I’ve played it like 30 times already

Chorus is ass but those verses >>>>
NordicGuy Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 It's nice. It's going for a relaxed smooth sound and it achieves that well. It's just that that's not what I'm looking for from Janelle Monáe. Hopefully there's something a bit more ambitious on the album, if there is one.
Crank_It_Up Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 It’s okay, kinda let down tbh. I only like the production and how chill it is but, it’s not anything innovative or special like her previous material. ALSO…whoever said this was like I Like That (one of my favorites from Janelle)? Because chile…
Dragonfly Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 Not a discography highlight, but I enjoy it
Martyr Of Fame Posted February 17, 2023 Posted February 17, 2023 I was worried about this but…I like it. Go ahead and do your victory lap
JoeAg Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 I quite like this song, it’s a cute bop also i think it’s safe to say the album is 12 or 13 tracks?
shookspeare Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 did everyone just collectively agree that this song didn't happen
