Ohhhh, I didn't use the audio on spotify. (it messes with my recommendations) I used the official music video on youtube. since there was no pre-music foreplay, I assumed the song started outright. I had no idea the actual music video edited out half the song. wtf?

 

ok wow the actual intro was much worse than what i thought it was when i submitted. it would have ranked a few spots lower.

Thanks! It's obviously a new experience for me, so I'm trying to navigate it as best as I can. I think my lack of merge experience definitely makes it tricky to understand the dynamics of my tribe, but I trust the people who have gave their word to me, and vice versa.

i feel great coming into this merge tribe. i would say i don't have a handle on the dynamics at all! and that's why i feel great! i love unpredictability. one time, on my birthday, when i was like 8, my parents got a jumper for my birthday party and i was jumping in the lil castle and one of my cousins tackled me and i fell out of the jumper and hit my head on the concrete and got a concussion it was soooo crazy i didn't see it coming at all

 

my lack of longevity last time was an accident. i've casted several spells to ensure my victory this time. sorry to everyone else that wanted to win :/

Thank you! It's always nice to be safe. I didn't think I had much chance of winning the challenge, so it came as a surprise. I'm not sure if I needed it! You'll have to ask any of the girlies if they're coming after me. My fave Rina song will probably always be Cyber Stockholm Syndrome, how I discovered her! Shoutout to 10-20-40 too. I've also always loved Snakeskin!

Castaways, welcome to the tenth challenge of Survivor: ATRL Edition (Season 12)! Immunity is back up for grabs!

 

Halftime Havoc

 

This round, you will be trying out a brand new challenge for ATRL Survivor! Last season, we took a trip to Las Vegas to get your creative juices flowing. This season, we will be going to the Super Bowl!

 

You will be split into four teams of three. Inspired by Rihanna's recent Super Bowl halftime performance, you will be tasked with creating a Halftime Show for an artist of your choosing. You can pick ANY artist that you think would be an interesting Halftime Show performer — keep in mind that they should have a discography large enough to craft a full show. They do not have to be an obvious choice!! This is your opportunity to pick someone completely unexpected and WOW our judges.

 

IMPORTANT: there are two restrictions...

1) You are obviously NOT allowed to choose an artist who has already been the MAIN performer in a Halftime Show. Guest performers will be allowed if they did not have a significant time on stage during their appearance.

 

2) The artist must be at least 35 years of age as of the deadline. Multiple teams are allowed to choose the same artist; just be mindful that direct comparisons will be done between your show and the other team’s show.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS + SCORING:

The judges will be evaluating the following aspects in their assessment of your Halftime Show. The team with the highest average score will win immunity at this tribal council -- yes, all three players!

 

1. Music (5/10 points):

One of the most important aspects of creating this show is choosing the songs and making sure they fit into the very small time slot. Halftime shows typically range from 12 to 15 minutes. They have somewhere between 8 songs and 12 songs. Some artists (like Rihanna) will integrate little samples/elements of other songs in their transitions.

 

When you create the set list, you will want to define which portions of the songs are performed. In most Halftime Shows, the artist focuses on a specific 30-60 seconds because they have limited time.

 

For this requirement, please create a Spotify playlist with all of the MAIN songs in your Halftime. You will also need to include a listing of the songs with the time stamps (and/or lyrics) of the specific section that you are including. Feel free to mash things up.

 

The judges will evaluate your music selections as follows: Is the set list cohesive and full of variety? Do the song choices make relevant sense within the context of the artist’s discography? Did you pick the best parts of the songs to highlight? Do the song choices make sense for an electrifying performance like the Halftime? Does the flow of songs make sense/seem natural for the show?

 

OPTIONAL: Guest Performance

Many Super Bowl Halftime Shows bring 1 or 2 guest performers along. If you decide to do this, you will want to choose an artist (or artists) that blends well with your main artist. Make it interesting and exciting, but still realistic. Include the guest artist's songs in your set list/playlist. Of course, you are also allowed to NOT have a guest in your show (like Rihanna did). Just make sure that your main artist's performance is strong enough to stand alone.

 

The judges will score based on how strong the guest performer's presence/songs are and the way they blend with the main artist. If you pick a bad or unnecessary guest, you will see a score decrease. If you go without a guest, and the judges think you could have benefitted from having one, that could also result in a score decrease.

 

2. Costumes (2/10 points):

A costume or multiple costumes that you envision your artist wearing throughout the show. You don’t have to sketch them out... but you can Google fashion pieces and put together what you think would be a great performance look.

 

3. Staging/Performance (3/10 points):

Take us through the theme/concept of the show and outline the performance. This is where you can really be inspired! You will want to describe the staging, stunts, choreography, props, background dancers, etc. Set the scene and make us picture the show. For example, in Rihanna's 2023 show, we had the floating stages, the background dancers' choreography, the Fenty product placement, the pregnancy, etc. In Katy Perry's 2015 show, we had the tropical setting with Left Shark, the gigantic animatronic lion, the shooting star platform raising her to the sky, etc.

 

This is your opportunity to get creative with the written word, pictures, etc. to describe and sell your Halftime Show to the judges!

 

When you send your submission to the hosts, please utilize a format such as Google Docs, Google Slides, or some other other publication tool to make the entry look nice. A submission consisting of a bunch of Discord DMs will not be accepted.
