zasderfght Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I'm a teacher, and I barely make it on time. I'm usually in the office 1-5 minutes before the bell rings. I'm one of those people that needs my 7-8 hours to sleep, so getting up earlier is usually not an option. I have insomnia, so it's hard to go to bed at a decent time-- especially when it's a busy day, and I have to run multiple errands after work. Not looking for advice per say, but anyone else feel like they're driving like a Nascar driver in the morning, rushing to the parking garage, and trying to beat traffic to make it to work at 8/9am?
CrimsonX Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I live like 5 minutes away from work and I’m still never on time but I’m usually only 10-15 minutes late but I for the life of me can’t get to work on time but i stick around past my shift all the time so it balances out.
Badgalbriel Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 (edited) Nope. I naturally wake up at 5:15 am without using an alarm. So I have plenty of time to do whatever I want in the morning before work. I do get extremely tired after it's dark, though. By 9:30 pm I'm already in bed. Edited January 18, 2023 by Badgalbriel
Distantconstellation Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I'm also always late. I'm not a morning person at all. I need at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep to feel good. Even getting 7 hours of sleep makes me feel off. It was so bad i had to drop out of highschool and go to nightschool instead. Once I did that my grades improved, I just function better at night
mystery Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Not really, I work a 6am - 3pm shift and my body already naturally wakes up right before 5am. It doesn't take too long to get ready and work is quite close.
Ophelia Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 same, I work from home and sometimes I wake up 15 minutes before I start my shift Even if I start at 12 am
BGKC Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I have a very hard time working early in the am. I spend most of my working life working evening/night shifts as a server and bartender. I was a night owl and got to sleep in most days and was able to accomplish things like gym and grocery shopping with the 9-5 crowds. This 9-5 life I do now is bogus. Trains are packed, there’s more traffic, lines are longer if you want coffee… It’s nice to have my weekends tho.
kandicha Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Yeah I’m always the person running in at 7:59 when work starts at 8:00 Thankfully my boss is in a meeting first thing in the morning and not paying attention

In the last month alone I clock in about 15 minutes late every day because my body REFUSES to wake up until 8:15 am (while my shift itself starts at 8). I don’t know what to do but I’ve got to get it together.

nathanspears Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 No. I hate it when people are habitually late. It's so rude Even worse, at university, people would come in to lecures late, walk in carry a coffee and cause distruption as they sat down.
Dear Reader Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I live 10 minutes away from work and I always arrive at 8:05/10 when my shift starts at 8… This happens way more in the winter since I want to be in bed longer due to the cold In the summer time I get up easily because I love when it’s sunny outside, it gives me energy
americanlife Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 Only when I do opening shifts. My shift will start at 8 and I'll leave the house around 7:40-7:50 and get there around 7:58-8:03. If I don't do opening shifts, I leave home about 25-30 minutes before my shift starts and I get there on time.
Pheromosa Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I was usually 10-15 late daily until I started getting breakfast on the way to work. Food motivated my fat ass
scenekiller Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I'm never late but I'm always just right on time I work 10-6 and I walk in right at 9:59 to get to my office at 10. I also walk out right at 6. If they want me earlier they can pay me earlier

Girl, university is like the one place I don't get being upset about that. Is it really that much of a disruption for someone to walk in and sit down - My body naturally gets up early after working at places where I've had to be up before dawn, so not really. On overly long weekends like this past MLK weekend, it is more of a struggle because I got an extra day to be lazy/sleep more and then ended up staying up late at night Edited January 18, 2023 by yellowflame
Pikachoo Posted January 18, 2023 Posted January 18, 2023 I work from home. I start at 9:00 AM. My alarm is set for 8:40 AM

That's the problem as well, it wasn't just one person who was late, people would just come streaming in throughout the whole thing. Some people literally turned up 10 minutes before the end just to "sign in" so their attendance wouldn't go down And then these same people would complain they have no idea what's going on and moan when their grades suck

Where I went, they lock the doors after a certain amount of time after the class starts, so you can't really do that
