That‘s an interesting opinion :rip:.

It‘s not one of the worst songs, but also definitely not one of the best songs on the album for me.

I'm with sis Collin on this one. MOD is probably one of the only tracks I return to for a standalone listen, like if it comes on via shuffle or playlist.

I wonder if I'll listen to HR in full 10 years from now and finally "get it." :skull:

Mess :rip:. I‘m of the minority opinion that High Road is actually not a bad album (despite not being the kind of album she should have released at that stage) and has quite a lot of replay-worthy songs.

I think the album holds a special place in her discography because it kind of demonstrates the forceful joy she was experiencing. We could tell it was forced because it felt weird. Songs like Potato Song are clowned on as well but there is something sinister and special about it in a way. Idk how to articulate it just right but the album has this sort of hidden dark spirit to it. MOD embodies that well— the tacky agony pop of where she was at then.

I want that too but those songs are not it. She needs to refine her lyricism if she does folk/country. Even Gag Order is a bit on the nose, we need Past Lives, Resentment and Fine Line type lyrics.

I like the sentiment of the song. Her vocal performance is great. And the hook is great. And it’s goofy and light hearted in way that balances tackiness with quality instead of being straight cheese.

While we are on the topic, Father Daughter Dance is criminally underrated

Spoiler

And if I’m being honest… I love Raising Hell :chick1:

yeah that totally makes sense, for some reason it just never clicked much for me personally. definitely not saying it’s a bad song by any means

The MOD, Resentment & Cowboy Blues trinity praise in here :clap3:

Overall High Road was such a random mix of songs. Little Bit Of Love kinda sounds like a P!ATD parody song, Shadow was like she took inspiration from Rainbow and recycled themes and lyrics from it, BFF is horrid, and even though Summer and Chasing Thunder are appreciated by some fans, they sound so... basic? Like she could do so much more with a pop-country/folksy type of sound than that. It feels like she wrote those two songs in half an hour and asked the producers to hurry up with something that sounded decent enough to be on the record.

Spoiler

I love the messiness that is Tonight though nnnnn

I’d like Tonight more but the back vocals drive me kind of nuts, they sound bad. Kinky’s intro ruins the song, also.

I love High Road so much :falcon:

Its my third favorite album of hers, used to be my second favorite until Gag Order snatched its spot (Warrior remains at the top tho).

I still listen to pretty much every song on it except for BFF, which is cute but doesnt quite go anywhere imo which sucks because the beat is really nice.

The Potato Song and Birthday Suit are CLASSIC Kesha songs that could easily pass as Animal outtakes from 2008 ngl :giraffe:  (thats their charm though!)

Right re: Potato Song & Birthday Suit. She was never allowed to release those kinds of songs. On Rainbow she had too much to prove. But I’m glad they ended up getting released because that style is a part of her worth representing in her official discog.

Well Rainbow had some that came closer I guess. High Road was the chance for her to do a lot of them on one album, it feels like that was the purpose of that album and I respect that. I hope that was a one time thing.
