Wondy Lust Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Trying to break into the Japanese market after non-stop flopping in the West, we support her in this endeavour, now collab with Shiina or gtfo!
SLIME Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I was SURE this was an old quote resurfacing and not something brand new. She might be out-of-touch or delusional but I have too much going on to do anything but laugh
Sugar-Rush Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 I still remember when she used to bring those 4 Asian women with her to award shows as if they were mascots.

Mtjjproducer Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 God what an idiot I’m so glad I didn’t like music outside a handful of songs as a child. fergies album was always better than both of Gwen’s albums her marriage to that trash Blake Shelton makes so much sense

I bet someone like you who could excuse this was a big fan of Miley Cyrus’s controversial and notoriously cultural appropriation-filler “Bangerz” era, weren’t you?

Very immature and since when has Allure been relevant in the year 2023? Bingo. The writer knows what Gwen meant. Just being obtuse and difficult to write a story for clicks. No one cares.

People who have actually seen the world and other ways of life know that there is beauty in appreciating and honoring our differences. Gwen knows she isn't ethnically Japanese - she grew up immersed in Japanese culture and developed a deep appreciation for it. It's cool that she represented some of that in her music and imagery and helped expose US audiences to other cultures. 13 hours ago, Moloko Plus said: Allure is acting real childish with the way they’re handling this interview. She really didn’t say anything wrong, had no malicious intent, and it didn’t seem like she meant she was ethnically Japanese. I’m glad she spoke her truth instead of just giving a PR approved woke statement rebuking her time with the Harajuku girls. It was an iconic era and she shall defend it as such. 8 hours ago, HASHTAGPOW said: Gwensan Sugawara 4 hours ago, Myah Marie said: the og Nikita Dragun 22 minutes ago, Femalien said: これらのジャーナリストはグウェンが日本の女王であることに嫉妬している
Erreur2 La Nature Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 ATRL being the only place in the world where you can find people mad at Gwen Stefani
B-Luke Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Actually, I feel like going forward more celebs won‘t embarass themselves through PR‘d apology notes anymore but doubling down on their past mistake and own up to it, like.. they probably just don‘t give a **** anymore
stoopidjenna Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 On a scale of 1-10 of being problematic this is like a 2.
GwennyGwenGwen Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Honestly, my biggest problem with the article is that it was a 32 minute interview... and we got like 3 short Gwen quotes lol... So there's no way to understand the full context of the silly eye catching quote. Cause the thing is...I don't actually think Gwen is simply "out of touch" or "tone deaf" or needing a better publicist etc...I think what often gets missed is that for better or worse she's actually quite passionate and resolute in her belief that cultures are meant to be shared and traded and mirrored back and forth etc, and that that actually brings us closer together and is a positive thing. It's very much a part of the ethos of the ska music and ska scene she grew up in, and if's clearly something that has stuck with her and that she's not backing down from.

Not exactly true: 11 hours ago, Communion said: Now did she? You cannot simply be an ambassador of said culture whilst also trying to trademark it and make a profit out of something that you didn't invent nor helped create. Gwen is simply obsessed with Japanese culture, her problem is to not see how damaging that can be in today's climate. We didn't have a problem back then people will certainly have a problem now. The interview is problematic and her takes on culture are outdated and risky.

The interview is problematic and her takes on culture are outdated and risky. I said "for better or worse" for a reason. I think it's a complicated issue, that i honestly don't know exactly where I stand on, and am certainly not educated enough about to have a real opinion. I'm simply stating that I think Gwen's "take" isn't simply her being ditzy or out of touch...it comes from a very specific world view tied to the ska scene and ska music she grew up in (which plenty of people criticize these days too for the same reasons).
