Gracie Abrams - 'Good Riddance'

This one was very mediocre. The delivery got stale real quick, since she doesn’t have much range in conveying her lyrics. Since the production is very stripped down, she depended on the words and her delivery to make the songs stick and they’re not a strong batch overall. She sounded like a watered down version of better indie talents like Julien Baker, Sharon Van Etten, Phoebe Bridgers or Aldous Harding. These woman have affections to their vocals, but they always brought their a-game performance-wise and never settled for bananis and avocadis. A more dream pop production could fit her in the future, something akin to Charlotte Gainsbourg who also had breathy, thin vocals, but was smart enough to bring interesting production. So Gracie stays in the nepobaby lane for me

This is amazing, I don't know how someone can not like this album. Lyrics, production and everything is so well balanced! So surprise!

It’s a good album but her voice kind of drones on and on. I think I still prefer her EP from a few years ago but there’s some nice songs on here.

Minor remains her best project

for me it was a mixed bag. full machine, drugs, best, right now, and will you cry are her best songs ever… but songs like i should hate you and amelie are just boring, she sounds so sleepy on some tracks and the production doesn’t help

the main issue here are the lyrics tbh…for someone trying so hard to make lyrics their entire brand there are so many clunky lines:rip:

it's fine. her 2021 EP is better though imo

Right now is absolutely beautiful

Minor is still probably her best project for me. I wasn't too fond of This Is What It Feels Like either. Like someone said here this feels like a watered down version of indie female acts like Phoebe. Lyrics aren't really anything special and her delivery is pretty boring. There are some great songs that I'll probably add to my library (Will you cry, Full machine, This is what the drugs are for, I should hate you) but I kinda expected a lot better for someone who constantly mentions Taylor as her biggest influence.

Loving this!

The whole album sounds like filler songs on Spotify playlists, like so stale

As someone who enjoyed her previous projects Minor and This Is What It Feels Like, I feel the latter felt like a debut album and should've been the debut album. I enjoy this album, but I feel it will grow on me once I revisit it once, but it's not that bad. I am hoping Will you cry? makes it onto the setlist. The marketing in LA for this album at The Grove is everywhere.

I checked it out some time ago, but her vocals are completely not for me…

Side note - this era has a few bonus tracks ready that should be released eventually. Maybe as some physical editions/territorial bonuses or a deluxe version later.

I hope we get Abby on the deluxe :duca:

still can't wrap my brain around why she chose the cover art... when the promo pictures are all infinitely better

She chose it because it was inspired based on her favorite film, Amelie based on the photoshoot pop-up she did yesterday when I went.

I adore this album. It gets better every time I relisten to it.

I love sad, melancholic songs.

clearly her attempt at a folklore but it's cute, couple of fillers at the end but Difficult is easily the best song and the first 3 are great too

I was getting bored somewhere in the middle, but not a bad album overall! It just needs more Wishful Thinkings :giraffe:

I cannot for the life of me get through a single song on this album :deadbanana4: Her voice is just... not good, and her songs are so boring conceptually.

I can understand when people say the album sounds samey. Also her voice is kinda a hate or love it situation.
Her songwriting, vocals and bridges could give her a big sad (bedroom) pop girl status. Some songs are weak, but not outright bad (Faul Line, Right Now). A big standout track is still missing, but its cohesive and maybe her best project imo.

The bridges of Best, WDWGN, I should hate you and the third verse of Full Machine are fabulous. I should hate you is stuck in my head. FM itself reminds me a lot of Tomberlin.
