Afterglow Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Extremely sad to hear of this, especially now when she cant get justice.

Teenagers are expected to make a lot of decisions that often end up shaping their adult life. There are times they know better and there are times they don’t. However, teenagers who are caught naively engaging with predators should be handled accordingly. Im not implying that Aaliyah should be held accountable, just that she should have been punished and/or educated when it came to her relationship with R Kelly to begin with. Both her parents and her uncle KNEW wtf was up the moment R Kelly wrote AANBAN for their 15 year old daughter. It should have never happened. And who knows what other shady stuff they let fly before that. They simply didn’t care what poor choices it took for her to achieve fame and fortune. They failed her miserably and she’d likely still be alive today if AANBAN never happened. Edited January 5, 2023 by BGKC
loudliyah Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 Aaliyah everyone failed her. She didn't deserve half the things she went through and then for her to pass away so early.... makes her story even more tragic.
kandicha Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 This is so sad to hear and to realize that everyone around her failed her. Rest in peace Aaliyah and hopefully R. Kelly gets what he deserves in this life and whatever comes next.

Adamj.dion Posted January 5, 2023 Posted January 5, 2023 (edited) With all this information… Why did Missy Elliott do the song ‘Dats what I’m talkin’ bout’ with R Kelly in 2003? Her first line of that song is even more creepy now knowing all this. Even her friends let her down after her passing. Edited January 5, 2023 by Adamj.dion
Moonlight Nation Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 This sadly doesn't surprise me. Damon Dash, who was Aaliyah's boyfriend during the last years of her life, made a devastating statement on the matter in light of the "Surviving R. Kelly" documentary. Quote In 2019, Damon Dash revealed to Hip Hop Motivation that Aaliyah did not even speak of her relationship with Kelly in private; he tried multiple times to discuss it with her, but she would only say that Kelly was a "bad man". Dash said he was unable to watch Surviving R. Kelly because its interviews with visibly traumatized girls struggling to discuss their encounters with Kelly reminded him of how Aaliyah behaved when trying to recount her relationship with Kelly This is so sickening. Thank goodness this man is finally behind bars and rotting in jail. To think the marriage certificate was revealed to the public in August 31, 1994, yet Aaliyah was the one to bear the brunt and struggle to find producers for her next album, while Kelly kept getting high-profile features and support despite his behaviour and pedophilia being common knowledge since then. The entire music industry was complicit in enabling his crimes.
