So basically as most expected, album sales are getting bigger not because the KPOP fanbase is growing (it's in fact, shrinking like Bang PD warned us) but because of stupid factors like competition between pre-established fanbases and rich Chinese fans who have the money to bulk buy.

The album sales have become a useless marker of popularity and don't show the true reality of what's happening to KPOP globally, which isn't good. When KPOP has to worry about SEA of all places, it's time to ring the alarm bells. Somethings wrong and something needs to change fast.

That's why Bang PD is out here crying about needing to take the K out of KPOP or something...

I would have liked to see a similar article with numbers without BTS before and after, to see where the rest of Kpop really is at. Bts are too big of an outlier and it likely affects the results when they aren't active.

That also begs the question what a post BTS Kpop era looks like, thankfully I don't think BTS are going anywhere anytime soon.

[INFO] According to sources the advertising cost for hiring Taehyung as the new model for Compose Coffee was 6 Billion KRW (4.6 Million USD) An official from Compose Coffee said, “We are happy to be able to work with a global artist who is loved by people all over the world regardless of gender and age. Through synergy with ‘21st century pop icon’ BTS V, Compose Coffee will also achieve even greater growth next year. It will be a time to take a step forward”

Compose Coffee highly evaluated V's achievements in reaching the top by focusing on one field: music. And the reason for selecting the model was that V's actions are in line with the spirit of the brand which has focused only on coffee for 10 years Compose Coffee finished filming an advertisement with V in early December. Compose Coffee's new advertisement with V is scheduled to be released online and offline in the future, including on TV, YouTube, and outdoor advertisements at affiliated stores.

Dispatch Couple New Year List (idols in bold)

2008: Hyun Young and Kim Jong-min

2009: Ivy and Kim Tae-sung

2010: Kim Hye-soo and Yoo Hae-jin

2011: Lee Na-young and Daniel Henney

2012: N/A

2013 : Rain & Kim Tae-hee.

2014 : Lee Seunggi and SNSD YoonA

2015 : Lee Jung-jae and Im Sae-ryung

2016 : JYJ Junsu and EXID Hani

2017: N/A

2018: Big Bang GD & After School Lee Ju-yeon

2019 : EXO Kai & BlackPink Jennie

2020: N/A (Twice Momo and Super Junior Heechul were outted by another outlet)

2021: Actors Hyunbin and Son Ye-jin

2022 : T-ARA Hyomin and Hwang Ui-jo

2023: IU And Lee Jong Suk

Looking at this history, Dispatch actually leans more towards actors and TV personalities than outing idols as New Year couples. This makes sense I guess as they'll go for who the Korean public cares about most, but a lot of the couples since 2019 have been tame from the point of view of Kpop fans. Dispatch didn't release anything in 2020, and then went for either actors or older celebrities who Kpop fans don't really care if they're dating or not. Last January Dispatch hit that sent huge shockwaves was Jennie/Kai in 2019.

The hostage concerts might be working :santa:

Then again that doesn't mean some other outlet, youtube or disgruntled fan won't leak things. I always suspected that Dispatch acted as a kind of safety valve for people's curiosity about celebrity dating. People would patiently wait for a Dispatch hit, then go on their merry way. So when Dispatch left the game to chase after true crime stories, I knew other would people try to fill the void and it'd be a free for all. That's how we got the Jennie/V leaks, for example.

That's what they get for releasing more and more photocards. Like I remember on particular group who are not that popular from a top company had 217 unveiled photocards and that many hidden photocards. Which is why their albums are selling like hot cakes but has no stats in digitals.

They'd be so big if they debuted now

Debatable. Never forget how they get their rookie awards thanks to judges panel. Because Weki Meki actually outsold them. And look at them now.

I think BTS's success was too big for KPOP to handle. I mean when you think about the fact that they were and are so big they created a multi-million dollar business conglomerate based on their profits alone....that's insane. They really made what the other Kpop companies were doing look like small-time small fries.

But that's part of the problem. BTS was naturally selling a million albums on the day of their release because they had that many fans. Other KPOP companies and fandoms knew they couldn't keep up and didn't want their own idols to look disastrously unpopular comparatively, even though, well, no one could compare to BTS love them or hate them. That's where you get increased bulk buying from the companies and fans. Yes, the fanbase did increase because of BTS opening up the West even further. But the increase in sales are more due to fandoms realizing that the bar has risen, and their fave would be considered flops if they were seen as selling the amount of albums that was considered 'the bar' in 2017. So the rich fans decided to buy more. The companies decided to fake sales.  Now you have groups that just debuted selling 1 million albums in one week...to whom??

I'm curious to see what 2024 without a BTS is going to look like. This is the only time any group, especially boy groups, and KPOP has to really prove themselves.

That's so ****** up. Why is Korea enlisting all the handsome Kpop guys all at once? I need this investigated. Take Soobin, he's right there.

They probably got the expensive, nice ones that are just a shell over the teeth rather than the ones where you have to shave down the teeth. That's somewhat better

I’m pretty sure Min Heehee put out a statement saying that she had regular orthodontics and bonding, not veneers

Kinda wonder if some Kpop agencies will ever include in a clause in their contract where if an idols decides to leave, they have to give their new teeth, nose, eyes etc. back. "We paid for your nose implant, now give it BACK"
