You are right, Kpop just either accelerated the issue or mirrors it perfectly

 

The lightest member of a 2nd gen gg/bg would be average light in current day gg/bg

 

Basically now if you ain’t light you have little to no chance of succeeding or being praised for beauty

sexy idols died with the rise of the common make-up industry from 2010 onwards. The make-up industry capitalized off the collective Asian old-money beauty standard of being pale. As a result, exactly three shades of foundation range exist in SK: milky, snow, and fair dew ☠️ This resulted in even the tannest sexy idols looking like ghouls. And it also doesn't help that despite there being tanned icons, the TRULY legendary visuals have all been pale as f*ck. On top of that, being tan was always part of your identity, and that wasn't always a positive thing.

 

And while idols were fine being tan, being an idol also wasn't seen as something you should aspire to be, unlike being an actor/actress. Actresses have been pale for a long time now
