Career totals also swing drastically in Taeyeon's favor if we don't ignore the fact that she's the leader, main vocal, most famous member, and occasional center of one of the biggest girl groups ever so idk who we're trying to fool with this gaslighting. They're easily the 2 most successful female idols by a wide margin and certain BTS members are the only men coming for their success or relevancy

Trust me, it’s really refreshing to see someone wholeheartedly praising aespa while still being respectful to other people’s tastes, while someone else is constantly sounding like a broken radio and doubling down on their behavior when someone calls it out. Sensibility is really a great thing and you have it.

I think both IU and Taeyeon are a bit washed up, they both peaked artistically in the late 10s and now they're releasing cheap, trend-chasing music and hanging out with the latest popular kids.

 

It's even worse in IU's case because she released some of the most mind-blowing K-pop songs i've ever heard. It all went downhill after that "eight" song with the BTS dude

Why would I compare 2 legends with enormously impactful and respected bodies of work that have drawn global acclaim for their talent to 4 separate girls who collectively have released less than one album worth of solo material?

I’m sure the IU comparison was only brought up because she’s the only one who rivals Taeyeon in current success and it’s not outrageous to think that she might surpass her in that ranking you posted if she releases something. I don’t think it was meant as any drag against taeyeon

Of course as a sone I’m gonna acknowledge Taeyeon’s achievements more. But Atrl is gonna make a big deal out of nothing as usual

Taeyeon stans really need to stop bringing up IU, it's just setting themselves up.

 

Last year Taeyeon (released an album) had 1.1B circle chart points whilst IU (no music released) had 3.5B points. Taeyeon's latest alleged "global" hits INVU and Weekend only have 93M and 60M on Spotify respectively. The last IU title track to receive less streams than 93M was in 2015 (Twenty-Three), before Taeyeon even debuted as a soloist. On the latest Circle chart, IU has a song from 2010 and 2017 charting. It's just not comparable. 

 

Let's not also bring up the fact that every SM act this year was going to at least Europe for their tours (NCT Dream, WayV, Red Velvet) but Taeyeon's tour was suspiciously limited to only Asia. Let's be real, IU could easily play in arenas in the big cities in Europe, LA, and NY but the same cannot be said for Taeyeon so the tour attendance card is a bit of a moot point especially considering her last tour was in 2019 (before the DEMAND of modern concerts post COVID-19 pandemic). 

 

She is firmly #2 and is not gaining anything on IU and that's okay. Still a legend in the game for 17 years!

Bc despite having released less than one album they got both local and global acclaim with IMPACT and are one of the most respected and  biggest kpop female idols

Not everything is about black pink sorry. Maybe after one of them has an album or at least a 2nd comeback we can start having those discussions but they do NOT have IU or even Taeyeon's domestic career totals individually or anything close. This is delusional even by blink standards.

Her touring power is massive (obviously!), but comparing a 2019 tour to a 2023 tour is like comparing the pure album sales of a western album from 2013 to one from 2016.

The only thing I know about them is they've been putting the work. They keep popping up everywhere between, Youtube shows, music shows, festivals and other like magazine shoots, they are everywhere. I will not be surprised if they are going some places, and watch their Youtube views, they seems to constantly growing at the same pace. Like they lowkey gaining a loyal niche fanbase.
