Kouhaku is a very prestigious Year-End Show on Japan that airs on New Year's Eve. It's a big honor to be invited even for japanese artists themselves, let alone foreigners. Since It means the act is recognized as a huge presence on the country. 

 

To put on perspective, the last korean boygroup performing was TVXQ, 12 years ago. And in 74 years of history, only 6 korean groups performed.

 

So It's a real big deal Stray Kids was invited. And they will need to be there live out of courtesy/respect. They will probably pre-record the MBC Gayo appearance, tho.

I think 2 will leave and 2 will renew. However they will emphasize the group will continue to promote together. A solo for Rosé will be announced soon and they will comeback next year.
