Spark Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Kpop will never get major Grammy recognition whilst companies keep releasing 2 shoddily put-together mini albums a year for each group, instead of focused on bigger/more curated bodies of work. Obviously as a fan (and from a business side) it makes sense, but the recording academy is extremely political and the frequency of kpop releases is a bad look for the genre in their eyes, especially when in general it's already viewed as manufactured. Even Taylor made sure to barely promote Speak Now TV to ensure that Midnights got a final push before the Grammys deadline ended. I honestly think if Seven released in like May, Jungkook would have had a better shot. 1

I mean we can just look at the Jungkook bad performance thread to see what the average american pop fan thinks of kpop, imagine the american critics
Harrier Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 19 minutes ago, Antisocialites said: did something happen or are sales finally declining? Someone said Karina's China bar is boycotting this album due to some dumb photocard controversy. They contribued like some absurd amount of My World's sales (400k+) So that accounts for some of it, maybe? But also sales did have to stop their rapid growth somewhere and if this is a sign of it, I welcome it. Bulk buying culture is inherently toxic and wasteful 1
Take Me Apart Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 the grammys don't care about your stray kids they probably used their for your consideration paper to wipe their asscheeks

SM albums have been getting delays ever since kakao took over (most recently with nct 127) and also this album in general has other delays by itself

Afro beats are a REAL genre, that’s why they got their own categories. Kpop will never been taken seriously if they don’t create their OWN sound, with elements from their own roots and culture 1

katyberry Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Quote 'Golden' is a stark reminder of HYBE Entertainment's desire to take the "K" out of K-pop. Just like how Le Sserafim has a touch of Rosalia and NewJeans has a touch of PinkPantheress. The only clue to the singer's presence in a parade of tracks that are overwhelmingly marked by traces of the composer's style or references is his unobtrusive command of English lyrics. Perhaps his competition isn't fellow musicians, but rather the latest trend in AI voice programs. https://www.pannchoa.com/2023/11/theqoo-jungkook-golden-izm-rating.html 1

Zack Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 19 minutes ago, Antisocialites said: did something happen or are sales finally declining? There was a problem with pre-order shipments. Many retailers won't be shipping till the 16th or later, plus Karina and Winter fanbars had disputes with SM so they suspended their purchases and Ningning's fanbar was not happy either. I think it could even out over this 1st week of sales though. Some people are also blaming the distributor switching from Dreamus to Kakao for the problems.
