BigBangStan Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 So Babymonster is not debuting this year anymore? 1

She has a few hits but do people know her name or face? Not really. She's not even an influencer type of celebrity like Rita Ora. And she doesn't even have 1/7 followers of BP's least followed member on Instagram. Couldn't this same thing be said for idols supposedly big enough to chart in the U.S? The same people who know and can identify the bts and blackpink members are the same people that could identify Bebe, but the thing is Bebe is still more recognizable outside of those people. Instagram like album sales is pretty irrelevant because most of their followers aren't even U.S based. If you want a better comparison take someone like Sabrina Carpenter, she's mostly known for being on disney and I could'nt name a song of hers if I had a gun to my head but I still know of her and would be able to recognize her and she hasn't even achieved half of what any relevant idol has.
BlackAura Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 AuntieMonster coming in the coming years..... 1

Save-Me-Oprah Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Why the hell are y’all fighting over Bebe Rexha

As a whole BTS/Blackpink are probably more recognized/known than either Bebe or Sabrina. If we are going down to individual members, Jennie/Lisa are probably as known as them. There's a reason the main collaborations between Kpop artists and western artists tend to be B-C list western artists. I think the thing that's missing is that Western boybands/girl groups always had one member that was pushed in the west and thus became the breakout star as an individual. They're trying to do that with Jung Kook now, but the Beyoncé/Justin/Camila agenda started while they were big as a group. At this point the BTS members feel as unknown as the Little Mix girls nowadays 2

Sadly people doesn’t care and since she’s not even 16, people would have used the age card… I don’t think it’s bc of that, maybe a contract issue with her parents, or she’s hiding bc she did surgery. Which is weird bc people loved the fact that she reminded them a younger Jennie 44 minutes ago, Odd said: is ILL-ITerate going to debut soon? Nope since their center is not ready to debut and have to get more training, they announced that they will debut in 2024 lol
Adama Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 (edited) This video is the perfect exemple of your debate lol ! The photographers chanting Jennie’s name meanwhile the commentator making mistake about her being a rapper from the group BLACKLINK because she doesn’t know her! Edited September 21, 2023 by Adama 1

Before I even knew about kpop I was aware of blackpink and honestly if they were pushed as a western girl group, me in 2018/19 would be non the wiser because that's what I genuinly thought they were and that's how people talked about them. I was like did I miss this new group? And this was around the time of little mix, prettymuch and Fifth Harmony were popular and still making music. I guess blackpink were always portrayed as more universal and weren't soley boxed into the kpop catergory or marketed as such as bts was for me. I wouldn't even know who bts was or who the members were when they were charting in the U.S if my friend wasn't an army. Mind you they were performing at award shows and again charting but I still didn't know they existed.

They have literally not released a song that doesn't contain Korean lyrics, esp in 2018/9 before their songs leaned into English more. What is this. Edited September 21, 2023 by Century
Zack Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Kinda bopping to this lately, the vocal production is horrible though. 1

You mean Blackpink or Jennie/Lisa? Because if it's Blackpink they do have songs with no Korean lyrics but only as album tracks like Crazy Over You, Bet You Wanna etc Lisa has Money

smates Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Enough already, white artists such as Sabrina or Bebe have more name recognition in the US where they were born than people named Jeon Jungkook or Lalisa Manobal even though the latter sell more and can probably tour more, WE GET IT, how much more of this discussion JFC. What are y'all trying to prove here 5

I already edited the post to specify. None of their singles have ever been completely in English though so idk how a casual would know Blackpink but miss the fact that they're kpop unless they just had seen the name Blackpink online somewhere once and didn't actually know them(which defeats the purpose of the post). One of the most incredulous things I have ever read. Edited September 21, 2023 by Century

Dialamba Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 So you’re telling US born artists are more relevant in the US than Idols No **** While Bebe has few hits, Sabrina is uneventful despite being a Disney girl, her biggest hit is due to Spotify auto play and even if with the whole controversy and Disney privilege she’s nowhere any BTS/BP members so let it go 1
