Kakao is not just one of their shareholders. They are THE majority shareholders (almost 40% shares, split between Kakao and Kakao Ent).

 

That's more than enough to seriously influence any major decisions, which they are already doing (like the new company that SM and Kakao will start together in the U.S.)

They had decades of capitalism, monopoly and legacy. SoMess was already there when Kakao was not even a thing, they ain't no itty bitty company to disenfranchised with.

The Korean members are favored with NingNing getting stuff here and there while Giselle is practically ignored. Sm has been pushing winter more recently which upsets Karina fans because they view her as the fotg and she hasn’t been getting any solo work recently. This is exasperated because recently winter was like on a show or something dancing which caused a fan war between Karina and winter fans because Karina is the main dancer and they feel like she’s not getting any opportunities to show off her skills. NingNing fans have been upset with winter being treated like the main vocalist especially with NingNing getting the least lines in spicy and feel like winter is taking all her opportunities. And Giselle stans are in the trenches because girl literally receives nothing. No lines, screentime and especially no promo. Nobody is satisfied with sm’s treatment of their faves and we take it out on eachother. Usually it’s k members v foreign members but now it’s just a free for all.

With how SM's operate lately, It just feels like we are still in the old SM, nothing has changed  That new company they are working with is more like a collaboration than anything.
