I feel that
There are still some songs getting released here and there that i like but overall i listen to so much less kpop
so many songs dont stick with me at all (especially due to songs getting shorter and shorter) and i feel like so many releases lost their kpop touch and try too hard to appeal to western ears. 
If i look back at this year i maybe truly liked 8-10? songs

This has been me for a while  I'm kind of at peace with it though. I still check out new groups that generate any particular buzz but for the most part, all of the new groups are just...unimpressive and reductive to me. Maybe it comes with being a k-pop boomer (which is wild because I'm the same age as Jungkook ) but it's hard to connect with groups or artists whose members are significantly younger than me, especially because the further from that age I get the more I can see that a lot of their sound/imagery/marketing really is directed towards young teenagers. 

 

Plus, I feel like almost no one in k-pop is pushing boundaries right now and they haven't been for a while. I feel like that's part of the missing spark, for me. The whole industry has just been coasting as opposed to, like, 10 years ago when companies were trying new and weird and interesting things all the time because groups didn't just debut into a sizeable international following like they do now. I think the transition to an international, visual-focused, social-media-centered industry has had a lot of side effects, part of which is the current lack of talented idols, and part of which is the fact that it used to be okay to be weird and subversive and it really isn't anymore cause it's more important to be desirable/relatable. Honorable mention to Aespa and NewJeans, though, cause they're doing/have done interesting and fresh things, but a lot of the other new groups of the past few years just kind of feel like.........they're being generated by a slot machine of concept/song/visuals with, like, 3 bland options for each.

 

But then again, I hear myself complaining and I know I sound like a boomer  Honestly, I think the reality is a mixture of all of those things really being the case (cause, let's face it, the industry really has changed dramatically, in some ways for the better but in many ways for the worse) and also just having absorbed so much k-pop over the years that it's harder and harder to be engaged or impressed.

2022 was just too loaded, this is a sleeper year.

 

I mean, Talk That Talk, Forever 1, Feel My Rythm, Love Dive, After Like, Pop!, Tomboy, and Run2U all being the same year? It was manic
