The songs are completely different melody wise, however they do share some little bit of similarities structure wise:

 

- They both have repetitive choruses 

- both having a hip hop breakdown that transcends directly to the pre-chorus which then transcends to the repetitive chorus 

- both songs start with a rap

There is nothing wrong in Stray Kids performing S-Class or another song they like that is not palatable to some people's taste. I'm sure a lot of people genuinely like their music. And they didn't start with these fans, they gradually built their popularity up releasing such songs. 

 

If existed people who connected with the group and their work before, I'm sure some will after seeing their performance on VMAs. And when some don't, there was other 17 performances that night by artists from different countries, language and music style to being appreciated instead.
