Why are we dragging the lack of diversity in the most diverse kpop lineup of all time? I agree that there's lots of room for improvement but this is still a colossal leap forward for Hybe who considered Sakura a diversity hire

Korea is one of the most homogeneous countries so why do we expect diversity  When even in western countries dark skin women are crucified.

Since I have it on the brain, don't forget that Kakao's management can now override SM's wishes at any moment.  And this kinda goes back to the Wonho situation with Monsta X where there were revelations about his past that weren't really revelations to fans or the company.  But they were revelations to the freshly new owners of the company, Kakao, who put pressure on Wonho to leave Monsta X as they didn't want the distractions while Monta X embarked on some kind of iheartradio promo junket.  So there's a precedent.  Maybe they learned from their overreaction.  And maybe they don't think it was an overreaction.

The fact that monbebe used to post about Wonho tea on Twitter for years and then people acted brand new when the ***** started to talk.

 

Just as we knew about Kihyun underage drinking and smoking, there were videos and pictures, the fact that the one guy accusing him not once but twice of bullying used the pics as evidence. People acted shocked but the thing is, of Kihyun bullied the guy as he said then a certain BTS member bullied him since he was on the pics and videos with Kihyun as they were best friend at the time and always hang out together. But weirdly the guy always avoided to talk about that.

Yeah, I agree that BTS' global success kinda changed SM's whole direction and ruined their identity and everything they had build up during 1st and 2nd gen. SM simply got to obsessed with The US and wanted their own "BTS" to the point that they didn't even realize that the slightly closest thing to a BTS they ever had in the US was not even a boy group, but their girl group Red Velvet  And yet the completely shelved RV their whole career. Had SM actually given Red Velvet the same amount resources and payola as they did with NCT, they could've seen far greater results with Red Velvet than they did with NCT.

Because RV has been neglected by the company since Day 1. They were seen as a stepping stone for the debut of White Fox (with several trainees in SM Rookies that were teased around that time). I believe they debuted RV only to not waste the potential of Seulgi (who already trained for 8 years) and Irene (who were too old to debut in a big group with young girls). But the group saw unexpected success and White Fox was scraped eventually

When is SM going to give us their global girl group, if they want America so bad I'm shocked their not bandwagoning this trend.

DREAM ACADEMY looks really nice! I do wonder what kind of music the group will make tho, I hope it won't be something crafted only for the US (Hip-Hop stuff).

 

In terms of looks, Mei (especially) and Lexie look wonderful.

 

Overall, I genuinely think it's going to be interesting to see if HYBE managed to fix the typical western individualistic approach to make such a diverse girlband actually work.

ngl I don't get why reveluvs say SM didn't treat RV well when the girls were getting 3 comebacks per year, and they pushed them as their main girlgroup after f(x) got shelved and some of the SNSD girls left...

 

compared to the mess aespa's career has been thanks to COVID + SM's problems I think they were treated just fine  I say that as blink so my standards for gg management were pretty low at the time.
