The bigger problem that non of the English songs break into mainstream... Just listen to them... It's a bunch of watered down Hollywood Records music. The music is not catered to their audiences or fanbase and the audience they try to reach is not buying the music, since their idols is already there.

It's easy to push the racism agenda, but when in fact their Korean (non English songs) generally do better in the US than their English songs, you know the problem is not racism, but the music itself.

I mean exhibit A let's talk about Mister I have the formula to create another BTS and crack the Billboard Hot 100. He made his new group do a featuring with The JoBros in 2023... Like :rip:

Yes bc your average becky and joe from middle america haven't heard about Kpop. They aren't on Taylor Swift or Beyoncé type of mainstream where they don't need fanbase to get their name out there. Kpop is still pretty much a niche genre.

That still doesn't take away from what other Kpop acts have achieved in the west though?

But anyways

I'm begging you, please use critical thinking.

Please tell me what charting on Melon (which is a local music app in Korea) have anything to do with GLOBAL ALBUM SALES? :priceless: Jihyo is literally a TWICE member and we know that TWICE are 10x bigger than NCT, and yet NCT DREAM just sold 4M with their latest album. Or even Taeyong who just sold almost 1M with his solo debut, but he bombed everywhere, both domestically and globally. Like an NCT stan have no business calling others out for fraudulent sales, like get it together please :rip:

Well I expect the charts from other countries where she is charting according to your logic.

She is one of the least popular members in Twice and not even Nayeon who is ACTUALLY popular got those numbers and she had a smash song.

NCT DREAM have like 4 songs charting atm in Korea, their main market. They have Renjun and Jaemin C bars that are big, they do well in Japan too. They just finished  a world tour, so they have demand in other countries as well and most importantly they are a Boy Group, their fans bought a lot of albums.

Listening Stray Trash music is affecting your brain baby.

And that doesn't also take way that they have achieved those things thanks to their respective fanbases. What's not clicking? and to be truly mainstream, you need to have the geepee's recognition at the same time   :coffee2:

BTS, Twice, and BlackPink have definitely made it in the west. Anyone that can sell out multiple stadium across the country is definitely cemented tbh. :coffee2:

Average person can’t name 5 BTS songs off the top of thier head like they can Beyoncé or Taylor. But they still are somewhat known at least. And thier fandoms rival One direction and Belibers from a decade ago.

Anyway I actually love Twice but the onces in here are insufferable and those numbers are fishy, deal with It.

Also I love how they come for NCT all the time, stay mad uglies and wait for the next NCT comeback in a couple of weeks :gaycat2:

Twice has nine number one I don’t think they have to worry about a top 40 song :bibliahh:

NCT dream flopped after candy add the sub unit and taeyeon and I’m not gonna talk their poor streams.

As if TWICE aren't achieving 10x more things than NCT let's not :rip:Please don't speak on TWICE unless your faves can do a GLOBAL STADIUM TOUR, like your faves are not on the same level as TWICE baby. By your logic then Taeyong selling almost 1M albums is more sus when he literally bombed everywhere on every platform.

And also, album sales grow every year, so if Nayeon actually released an album right now it would probably sell a lot more than her debut last year.

And let's not bring Stray Cats into this, cause you're fighting only with my Once side right now

when did onces ever come for nct besides... just now to use your logic on them? the mental gymnastics:rip:

anyway nayeon would pull more than jihyo if she released now, sales have been inflated more & more each year since 2020, she'll outsell her in the US too so let's see how they ''fraud'' that :sadviolin:

You can still be successful in the West or anywhere else without being 100 % mainstream though. Like having a big fanbase in the West or anywhere else in the world is already a big accomplishment to begin with.

Kpop is indeed still a niche genre in the west, but what @Pluto2022said isn’t wrong either. The mono culture is dying nowadays, that means even the west is struggling with producing ubiquitous popstars like Taylor or Beyoncé recently. So it’s not a kpop-only thing. Taylor and Beyoncé were already big in the era of monoculture where social media was not this prevalent. Kpop started going global during the age of social media. So you can’t use them as examples. I mean who was the last big popstar that your usual Becky could name? Billie eyelash? Olivia? Dua LaPeeps? I’m sure Middle America is still not familiar with them as much as we think, especially not compared to the mainstream popstars until the early 2010s. So the definition of “mainstream” is changing nowadays due to every faction of the audience being more and more disconnected with the mainstream.
so having said that, now what we shouldn’t do is pretend that what acts like BTS, BP, twice, skz have achieved in the west in terms of amassing a huge fanbase isn’t impressive.

One common criticism about Aespa is how noisy their branding like 80% of Kpoop's current landscape but now that SM is letting them experimenting with different styles and sounds that are less grating. Some of this peepz are so quick to call them elevator music like pick up a narrative and be consistent with it :toofunny3:

Aespa's music aren't for everybody but at least they have the range to pull them off :marshmallow:

The way you’re acting like she’s selling a million :deadbanana2: Girl..twice is a million selling group now, and looking at how united the fanbase is regarding the “nine or none” sentiment, it’s nowhere near a surprise if Jihyo is selling 300-400k in this sales climate. :rip: You’re embarrassing yourself more and more with these trash takes. It’s like when kpop stans lack critical thinking, all they can scream is “frauDulent!!!” :dies:

Girls capitalism being the lead… I don’t get it. It’s cute but Complexity and Black Soul Dress were right there.
