The choreographies don't need to be that hard, just more creative. I like 'Black Mamba' and I think It highlights their performance skills. I think aespa can do better than people give them credits for with right dance moves

Exactly. SM is continuously giving them robotic choreos that don't allow for intricate body movements just to keep them "on brand" especially Karina who is heavily bashed for being a "bad dancer" until we got this

Despite their lackluster sales, fromis_9 really got the critical acclaim :loki:

Isn’t this like their 3rd stylist this year or am I tripping?

I'm not really following whoever their stylists are until I saw this on my timeline. They need to keep her

I need to get into their discography once I have the time. I also need Aespa to be in this list once they have their full album whenever that may be :eli:

I'm not going to laugh at Somi's sales because

a.) She gave me my gay kpop life with Fast Forward

b.) Jihyo is releasing this week and I'll reserve all dragging for after those numbers come out lest I open her up for lashings.

Jihyo will probably do 200k-300k album sales (maybe more idk). Melon probs 80 debut and go up or down based on GP reception and promotion lol. The teasers have been mostly nice so hopefully that helps with hype.

Western side I can see it charting billboard albums (I think there is distribution? They did for Nayeon?). I think Jihyo has a solid international fan base and people are liking this concept so it might do okay on Spotify too.

Third market (:rip:) Japan, hard to say. Pop! Did extremely well here but that’s cause of tiktok and the bright sound. Twice Korean comebacks generally do well in Japan so we will see!

all in all I think twice has enough demographics for this debut not to flop, if JYP pushes the performance side of things where Jihyo excels it could help with promotions and potentially get a hit depending on the song. There are more variables with the local market somehow :rip:

Yes! She is getting the same push through UMG but they just had to cancel a bunch of orders this week due to some technical issues or something, so that is a little concerning...

I think her sales will be fine too. I just think the title will have a set me free type trajectory...though you never know. Nayeon kinda proved that korean interest may not be limited to their current output as Twice. :katie:

What do we think of Starship as a company?

Like where are they compared to the Big 4?

On one hand they have had some huge stars and on the other some huge flops. They can't quite seem to get to the point where they're considered a Big 5th.

Mid tier companies like Starship and Cube are simply not among the Big 4 because they have too many nugu/deadweights and not as many breadwinners. Yeah IVE and GIDLE are smashing right now, but which other group from those companies are helping them with keeping the lights on? Notice how BigHit/HYBE wasn’t part of the Big 3 (now Big 4) until they recently started to build a very successful roster of artists

Gidle is literally smashing by themselves the only thing Cube did was remove their second best member (Soojin)

Cube was actually so close on joining that Big 4 title during 2nd Gen before BTS was even a thing.

They had BEAST/Highlight, Hyuna/4Minute, APINK, G.NA etc. then yeah we know what happened after :eli:
