Blackpink has had way more promo than February 2018 BTS ever had... and they still fail to enter Top20 by themselves.

 

They even had Ice Cream (Blinks always ignore this song btw), which bypassed all the constraints of Korean language songs (it got radio, #1 TTH  western feature, full promo), it is basically an English song (Jisoo’s 5 koreans words were easily ignored)... and still failed.

 

Here is the reality: it failed because it was mediocre, this is where Blackpink fumbled the bag, not because they lack promo but because they lacked quality, they choose the worst songs. This has been a constant for the last 3 years... and even when they have the rare decent song (Lovesick girls) they still can't grab as much Western interest as blinks would like to believe they could.

 

Bottom notes:

(I am not going to talk about solos because the solo promotions are definitely not on par with group promotions and I could see the argument where YG could do more... BTS also has the same problem tho, did anyone even remember RM solo?

Still, If all solos get massive promotion, would they thrive or would they hit a wall the same way BP as a group is doing? To claim one or the other is baseless atp so how can we construct an argument around this?)

 

The revision history lol!  Saying BP had more promo than 2018 BTS when they literally DEBUTED Fake love at the BBMA, followed by performances on Ellen, Corden and SNL + a full radios tour. In fact even  their 2017 release Mic drop the remix as the same amount of performances in the US than HYLT, PV and Shut down combined . And let’s not start to compare BP promo in the US to 2020 BTS Western push bc it’s going to show how delusional you was to said that 

 

Can you list us the FULL promo ice cream got? Because so far 2018 BTS got the same as them . Getting a #1 placement on TTH was great but when you know that what carried BTS high entries on the BB100 are their website/digitals sales and not their streaming US stats, you know that a TTH is not enough. 

 

What we are NOT going to pretend is saying that BTS and BP efforts to break into the US market is the same.

 

And You guys need to pick one narrative: bc one time it’s  that they  have been shoved down everyone's throat, the next time it’s people making fun of their lack of discography and comebacks compared to their peers

Speaking of bts their music 2018 and onwards has been a miss, fake love and idol were terrible and made me unstan them, I used to be a hardcore army before that.

Their run from 2013- 2017 was solid tho I'll give them that.

i love reading real CULTURAL takes on the kpop music industry rather than the usual stan circle jerking and the braindead dichotomy of stan/hater

also in retrospect, coachella 1 feels more of a "moment" than coachella 2 for blackpink. the energy was better and it seemed way more significant / exciting for some reason

They’re literally BP biggest hater  

Kiss and Makeup is an album track with only like 3 performances max. 
Sour Candy another album track where they only performed at their online concert one time. The fact it has almost streams as stupid love without  being a single. 
Ice cream (wasn’t good to begin with so) anyway the song has a Zepeto m/v, no solo performance in their single career, but TTH !!! As if it’s gonna do the job if you don’t work your ass off 

bet you wanna was supposed to be their first English release with radio deal, it literally got cancelled 
You don’t get the most pushed treatment if you barely acknowledge your songs.

performances are so outdated in the west, no one promotes their singles at award/talk shows so BP going on Ellen and Jimmy Fallon to perform HYLT wouldn't have made it a top 10 hit or anything

Ice Cream had a huge feature, lots of hype on Twitter, TTH, was sent to radio and had plenty of tiktoks which is more than enough to make it a hit

clearly the music is just not connecting at all bc they're a big name but why would Pink Venom or Shut Down smash in the west fff
