Nobody says BTS invented K-pop, but

they paved the way in the US and west. You can write essays to discredit them, but won't change the fact that none of your ancient faves had any impact in the US to cause ripple effect.

BoA's flop US debut, SNSD's late night show appearance, Wonder Girls Hot 100 debut, BigCriminals and 2NE1 Billboard 200 entry, even Psy's viral hit didn't cause chain reaction and boom of album distribution, touring, promotions and appearances like It's weekly Inkigayo or something, but BTS did. BTS didn't breakthrough overnight, they built fandom step by step, It is funny to pretend that BigHit had millions to pour in the US promotions when they were struggling until the success of HYYH but whatever makes you sleep at night! I think it is even funnier to say that BoA's irrelevant US debut which is only remembered when SM stans have to discredit BTS success had any impact on BTS after a whole decade lol.

Meanwhile, I do sleep well knowing that none of your current faves are touching BTS' GLOBAL success despite your fave companies pouring millions in promotions. Worry about that. The past and legacy will be judged by those who aren't bitter and delusional :beach:

I can’t believe I’m sticking up for BoTched but…

Yes they are a product of demand that’s been created by the K-pop industry for decades, however they were the ones that knew how to capitalize off of it like no other group. If you say that their success is just an inevitable consequence of where the industry was heading, then you must agree that specifically their success is also a necessity in order for the industry to move forward. In the same breath you mention “BTS aren’t special because they are building on the work that x and y have laid down before them” so will BTS be mentioned in future discussions about 5/6/7th gen groups being big in the West partially because “BTS have laid the ground work for them”

You can’t say the industry is just heading a certain way without crediting the groups that managed to profit off of it. That’s not how it works, the groups need the industry to push them but the industry needs the groups to have something to push

Years later I still don't understand how these entitled 2nd gen stans believe flops in 2008-2010 and Gangnam Style in 2012 has anything to do with BTS' demand in the West which didn't start until 2017 :rip: like give it up already. Ofc K-Pop was getting more popular and each group was benefiting from it, there is no denying that. But BTS managed to do what not one of their pioneers or their peers were able to do. But again that one member believes BTS' success isn't incomparable, and I can't argue with that level of delusion :rip:
