J-Queens didn’t start falling off until then and Japan was still on Korea’s neck. Tell Me/Into The New World was a bit of a moment, but Nobody/Gee is what made K-pop globally famous. If you’re wondering what the career trajectories were like: Hide contents - SNSD were universally hated until Gee. Their biggest haters were female stans of Super Junior and TVXQ who were afraid the girls were too close to their oppas. They didn’t get universal love until “Gee” came out. - 2NE1 was considered very cool, but people got tired of YG’s antics and the day their first album released with three mediocre title tracks was one of the biggest kiis in the second gen. Everyone loved both SNSD and 2NE1 and they were considered the top two groups. - f(x) was the SNSD-reject group. They were promoted as a dance group, so everyone was confused when they debuted with weak choreo. We later figured out that SM meant they were a dance-pop group. They were big for their time and SM did wonders for their careers by promoting them outside of Korea, but their reception now is way better than it was when they were active. - Wonder Girls were the face of mismanagement. Irony went nowhere, but Tell Me - So Hot - Nobody was so massive and they were clearly set to be the biggest K-pop group ever. JYP destroyed their momentum and their career was horrible to watch. Just horrible. - KARA were nobodies and then they went viral with Mr. and it changed their lives. Their Korean success was solid, but their Japanese success was better and so much more lucrative that they basically prioritized Japan over Korea and put Korean promotions on the back burner. - Miss A were considered frontloaded and also mismanaged. Their debut single was a monster but by the time Breathe came out, it was clear that JYP was still learning with girl groups. The 2.5 gen girls had it rough. - 4Minute were dragged ruthlessly for “Hot Issue.” They had organic growth and they were considered big by the time Mirror Mirror came out. They were the original akgae group. Was anyone else around back then? When CUBE thought it was a good idea to release solo MV teaser for their comebacks. And HyunA was the last uploaded but ended up have 5x more views than all the members combined. And it ended having 4Nia (4MINUTE fans) versus A-ING (HyunA fans) during the whole comeback.

We would have to watch 144Pixels variety shows and interviews with poor subtitles. This was before HD was on all YouTube videos 😭 and some of thier early albums and content weren’t sold on online shops. And if they were You would have to either pay expensive shipping and wait a month for albums and posters to arrive from Korea. I bought the boys album and had to wait like 2 months before it arrived. It wasn’t until like 2014ish that the industry started to become more modern as far as fan engagement internationally. Also Fanwar’s always existed on old Forums. Especially between the Big 3. SM use to be what HYBE is now commercially. YG hasn’t changed💀most YG Stan’s liked edgy/Hip hop concepts and had a stronger international appeal and JYP was the Korean general public go to. It was actually a good balance. I think KPop is obviously better now as a fan due to the amount of content and opportunities to meet your Idols. But as far as Comebacks, there use to be a lot more. Secret, AOA, Beast,4Minute ect. Use to have like 3-4 comebacks a year and they were all quality albums and longer promotions then now. As far as the language barrier thing, it actually wasn’t as bad as you might think. A lot of 2nd fans got into Kpop due to dances; Gangnam Style, Gee, Fantastic Baby really blew up on youtube back then. A lot of later 2nd Gen fans were really into the performances. It’s why once B.A.P/EXO/BTS started to debut they were very performative. It’s crazy how fan translators could basically grow a group’s fandom significantly. SNSD had the best translators ever and Soshified literally made subtitles a standard for K-pop which was so nice. But you’d also have antis everywhere using translations to try to manipulate public perception. The SuJu ones tried to make Taeyeon seem like she hated nurses and then changed “our black friend Alicia is so pretty” to “Alicia Keys is pretty for a black girl” when she did that radio show. That day was a WILD ride I feel like we need to do a rate for the wildest moments in second gen. Granted T-ARA would totally run it, especially after the Dani situation.
CandyCoatedClouds Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Misamo's song is so pleasant to listen to. A chill summer bop if you will. I like it.

Yeah Soshified did more for them then SM 🤭

Back then the Hallyu Wave wasn't as big as it is today, which meant that the Kpop industry was more segregated etc. How was the fan war situations? Was the content and merch for international stans limited? Did the big language barrier back then have any effect? How was it to anticipate for comebacks like SNSD, BIGBANG, 2NE1, SHINee, SJ, f(x), Kara, Wonder Girls, miss A, 4Minute etc.? What was the general atmosphere like? Do 3rd and 4th gen Kpop even compare? I was a GsD stan. The fanwar is about who got the most cfs(Yoona vs Suzy fanwar, Suzy vs Seolhyun vs Hyeri), the most popular tv shows and the #1 song. SNSD was the only gg with huge album sales and they are the only gg to tour in huge venues so fans fight with other things. I think it was SNSD vs Wonder Girls vs Kara...then to SNSD vs Sistar vs Miss A vs Apink. There is also the 2.5 gen(aoa vs gsd vs apink). Apink was supposed to be SNSD lite, they got big album sales, can hold big fanmeets and have a popular actress. I think being in a small company really held them back.

Was it because he sent them to America and tried to make them happen over there?

It’s his mismanagement and focusing on overseas activities over thier Korean Successes. There was multiple issues during their first American tour. It got delayed, and even one of thier English albums got scrapped. They were also overworked and Korea was missing them. When they cameback SNSD took thier title and a plethora of new girl groups were on the scene. Wonder girls had a Twice level Buzz and string of hits Before, but them going overseas for over a year made people move on. Be My Baby was still huge and successful, but at that point 2NE1 & SNSD were dominating everything. Also at the time Netizens would complain about WG overseas and Sunmi taking a break from the group, and then SunYe leaving and getting pregnant. kinda like if Twice just started American promo when they dropped Cheer up or Signal. And then just didn’t comeback for a year.😆 I remember a lot of online fans complaining like every week during thier hiatus. 😆 Edited June 16, 2023 by Gorjesspazze9 2

When So Hot trended and went to the Hot100 JYP, started a whole US promo plan (which included a Wendy Williams Show appearances), then all of a sudden they were the poster child of Disney, touring with the Jonas Brothers having their movie and stuff. But during all these times they were M.I.A in Korea, no news nothing. Then a comeback album was announced, which was a US debut with NO Korean appearance or promotions. It was supposed to be an album, Like Money was supposed to be the first single.
