Domestic popularity is the reason why older generation idols are able to have a career after their idol lifespan. Kpop groups do not make money off of sales or streams. Most of their money come from tour or endorsements deals. There is a reason why most idols end up going to acting or venture into other industry after their group disbanded. Look at loona for example, they sold a lot of albums, toured NA, and more popular overseas but they make no money and in debt. And the one member that is popular in Korea, chuu is the only one making money.

Plus domestic popularity strategy only benefits one or few of the members. Which is correct in the case of Loona's Chuu. 

 

However, if a group has great global presence and has many international fans, it's basically a huge marketing tool for ALL of the members. Just look at Aespa, ITZY and NewJeans, even their "least popular members" get global brand deals/endorsements which wouldn't have been possible otherwise. That's the advantage of securing goodwill from the international fans and it far outweighs the benefits of being domestically popular for a kpop group

at this point, kpop and entertainment is just a facade for yg's other businesses which includes prostitution, drugs and politics

International popularity is temporary, Plus promoting overseas is so more expensive than promoting in their own country. Domestic popularity is what gave idols longevity after they transitioned to solo or acting.

I think ISO knows what they're doing cause they wont be giving out certifications just like that especially with YG knowing all the past yg scandals are all well known  ISO process is very tedious and the amount of papers, audits etc for them to get this is not a joke
