actress ages, out of curiosity:

Cady 23

Regina 24

Janis 23

Karen 18

Gretchen 22

Originally:

Cady 17 (-6)

Regina 25 (+1)

Janis 21 (-2)

Karen 18 (=)

Gretchen 21 (-1)

The notable difference would be Cady by a high school aged Lohan vs. Cady by an adult.

I was not a fan of this :rip: I think it would've been better to do a straight up musical adaptation instead of trying to recreate a lot of the original movie. It just felt off.

Saw this tonight, it was alright. I didn't hate it, didn't love it. I had no issues with any of the acting performances, no issues with the filmography, and I liked how in the downtimes between musical numbers you got that remake feel but a bit freshened up. My main issue was, having this be my introduction to the musical, the songs were just not punchy, catchy or frankly good enough. I didn't leave with any of them engrained in my mind enough to want to go home and listen again. The musicality just wasn't strong and I think there would have been more credence in this if they just treated it as a movie remake for the Gen Z's/Alpha's. I'm 28 and when I was telling my 22 year old work colleague I was going to see this tonight, she was oblivious to the old movie. The Mean Girls story will be iconic whatever way it's told, and I think a modern-day retelling would have been more effective. I don't even think the team was confident in the music, since they barely used a track to the promote the movie once in any of the trailers and teasers. :skull:

Anyway, I'd still recommend seeing. But definitely set your expectations on the lower end.

The music of the film is... significantly worse than Broadway. FYI! I was gagged at how dead it sounded in comparison. Plus some of the weird musical changes were unexpected. I'd recommend listening to the Broadway cast album because it's much better IMO.

I don't know how you guys can come out of the movies without mumbling 'My name is Regina George..." to yourself, honestly! haha

But to each his own! A week after my screening, I went back to the OST and I love almost everything! But to be fair, I don't have any point of comparison because I never listened to the original musical, so maybe that's why!

It’s amazing. The cast is so talented. :clap3:

Having watched the Broadway musical recently, the music in the movie is so bad. Mostly because of the mixing I guess. It doesn’t really pop out as it should, just sounds flat most of the time.

it tanked and I had no will to see it

It definitely did not tank. :rip: It's made over double its budget already and has been sat at #1 at the box office for weeks. It was going to be a Paramount+ release ffs. :toofunny3: It's been a big hit for them.

It will make close to triple its budget by the end of its run because it's still missing some international markets and there are no big releases coming for a while. So no, it didn't.

Just watch it today and it was bad, really bad. :rip:

Renee is obviously the star of the movie, and the actress that did Karen was really charismatic. The movie felt longer than it should, the musical numbers were not really organic and it missed a lot of cues that made the original movie work. Even the so called funny bits aren't really funny.

The worst performance was probably Revenge Party, which felt like a high school musical production.

Honestly, I would most likely wait to watch it on a streaming service rather than go to the theater to watch it, if I knew it was this bad.

Renee saved it but that girl who played Cady was miserable

I'm watching this now and it's so stupid. Like why does this exist? It's the same thing as before but with a really ugly cast. And the old jokes are swapped for safe boring stuff instead. This is worse than mean girls 2 which was previously impossie. I don't think I will be able to finish this 💩. There is no soul to it it's so empty. I just hate everything about this. The mean girls are not even mean because they can't be now with the oversensitivity these days. All the edges of the original were dulled so now it feels like a rated pg straight to streaming film. And them removing things and staying much longer in scenes and cutting out other parts because their was a song now is just kinda a slap in the fsce to the og:snowball:

Edit:rewatched the og and way better than I remember what a classic. How dare they even try and touch this! 😭 It runs so much smoother everyone brought their a game and looked beautiful. You forget this KS acting and really fall into the scenes. The fashion is on point as well every single look

Everyone rewatch the og and get your life! Stop touching classics Hollywood! Let them be

seeing this for the first time cause I wanted more. Cute things they cut!

Not only is it iconic but looks like they had so much fun making it

As the top comment says these bloopers are more fun to watch than the new mean girls 😂

Finally got around to watching it online for free because there was no way I was going to pay to see it. It was cute, but there really was no point in it... I was not a fan of Cady she just didn't fit the role, the only characters I really liked watching was the plastics. I wish they were a little more mean though like in the original, I just feel like the whole movie really fell flat... by the end I really just wished I had rewatched the original because it is obviously 1000% better. Idk the musical numbers were kind of awkward to watch and I felt some of them kind of took away from the scenes. That long f*cking number they did with Janice and getting revenge was actually annoying. The movie wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either.

Just saw it on Paramount+. I really enjoyed it! Fun, funny, familiar but updated & modern, and had great musical numbers.
