infrared Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema is leaving the Democratic Party and registering as a political independent, she told CNN's Jake Tapper in an exclusive TV interview. "I've registered as an Arizona independent. I know some people might be a little bit surprised by this, but actually, I think it makes a lot of sense," Sinema said in a Thursday interview with Tapper in her Senate office. "I've never fit neatly into any party box. I've never really tried. I don't want to," she added. "Removing myself from the partisan structure -- not only is it true to who I am and how I operate, I also think it'll provide a place of belonging for many folks across the state and the country, who also are tired of the partisanship." While Sanders and King formally caucus with Democrats, Sinema declined to explicitly say that she would do the same. She did note, however, that she expects to keep her committee assignments -- a signal that she doesn't plan to upend the Senate composition, since Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer controls committee rosters for Democrats. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2022/12/09/politics/kyrsten-sinema-leaves-democratic-party/index.html Edited December 9, 2022 by infrared
WildAmerican Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 (edited) god she sucks Probably just doing this bc there's no way her ass would win a Democratic primary next time Edited December 9, 2022 by WildAmerican
Navyofbadgals Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Well at least she stops pretending to be a democrat I guess also cackling at her thinking anyone would be surprised by this when she was one of the deciding votes many times against some key issues the dems fought for this was bound to happen; the only question is when and to Republican or as independent
Ms. Togekiss Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I can’t wait for the day she’s voted OUT of congress like the loser she is
Vermillion Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Bernie Sanders and Angus King are independents out of principle. Krysten Sinema is becoming an independent because she was going to lose her primary and wants a job on K Street. The only question is if she has the gall to try to run for a second term and win. McCain Republicans (both that and moderate are loaded terms) do still exist in Arizona but MAGA is louder, more engaged, and more consistently funded now in the State. So good luck with that. Will her obstructionism be rewarded by them? I doubt it. Her op-ed in the Arizona Republic and interview for Politico explaining her decision are both classic gaslighting. Textbook. Edit: Didn't say to Politico when asked whether she's running for re-election. So make of that what you will.
GreatestLoveofAll Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Saw this thing on Twitter that said switching parties while in office should warrant a special election and I very much agree.
Gui Blackout Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Why is she still pretending she's not a Republican?
Elusive Chanteuse Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 How do u go from Green Party to this?
Vermillion Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Just now, Elusive Chanteuse said: How do u go from Green Party to this? You know the answer to that question. $$$$$$. Important sidebar: She says she's still going to be caucusing with the Democrats so things like judicial nominees won't be affected. But take that with a grain of salt.
@michael Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 So will the Dems run a candidate against her in her next election? I guess she knew she was going to be primaried and beat them to the punch. Now she has a couple of years to prepare for her run as an Independent.
Communion Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I support the idea of having more Independents in Congress but her ass was just scared of the reality she'd lose her primary

If you break down the crosstabs and current politics of the state, in a three way race between Gallego, Sinema, and a MAGA candidate, I give it to Gallego. She's hated by more Republicans than those willing to vote for her over her obstructionism. If it's Neolib v. Sinema v. Neocon I give it to the neocon by a hair. The biggest irony behind all of this is a switch to ranked choice voting will likely be on the 2024 Arizona ballot.
Leppie Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 So basically she either gets elected again (if dems run no one) or both her and the dems lose (because of vote splitting)?

Redstreak Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 What a ******* joke. Her home state party hates her and she probably sees the writing on the wall that she’s getting the boot next election
Taylena Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 She was pretending to be on the left like 90% of the Democratic Party.
LustSpell Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 The way this ***** KNEW she was going to get primaried so she switched like a little ***** ?. Now she's just gonna split the vote because she's a worthless peon. She somehow became even more insufferable.
Reginald Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 Can we stop electing these raging narcissists into public office?
TheLastChord Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 1 hour ago, Leppie said: So basically she either gets elected again (if dems run no one) or both her and the dems lose (because of vote splitting)? Democrats could also, you know, not run anyone and she could still lose. Aside from the Centrists ™ do you see a lot of more left leaning Arizona voters going out of their way to vote for a Manchin-like candidate. And in 2024 the entire GOP will be behind their candidate, be it Lake or not, because it's a presidential election year. So, there's virtually NO shot of this really going Sinema's way, or the Democrat's way to be honest. This is mostly a terrible and selfish political calculation on her part to avoid losing a primary. She'll still lose the seat in 2024 but it'll go to a Republican.
