Surviving 2022 - Top Songs 90 - 81: Taylor, Carly, Rihanna, Camila etc

Hello everyone. MLD here. Been 2 years since I have actually done a best of. But it's time I came back. And after the year I have had, it's good to just be celebrating the good parts of 2022.

I've been through so much personal hell this year that I'm surprised to still be standing. I suffered at least three mental breakdowns during the year, and experienced a bunch of trauma, depression and loneliness. I was gaslit and villainized by friends I thought I had made and then on top of that, went on to lose my Dad and my dog within the span of 4 months. And I also went through the trauma of a fire that could have DEFINITELY been worse than it was. So the amount of tears I cried this year was probably enough to fill the Mississippi River or Pacific Ocean.

I could have given up on myself...and killed myself or walked out on my life. But I didn't. I am still trying to make things better each day, trying each day. I take happiness from the little things. Those little things, the music, the Youtube videos, etc, will be featured in this year's Best Of.

My hope is that by celebrating the good that DID happen in 2022 in spite of all the tragic and horrific things going on around it, I can close what was a horrible year for me and move into 2023 with a fresh mind and I'm hopeful for a more triumphant year.

This year we will be revealing these:

Top 100 Songs of 2022

Top 10 Album Tracks of 2022

Top 10 Youtubers of 2022

Top 20 Worst Songs of 2022 (After the year I had, I should be allowed to roast something)

And more if I feel like it.

Because of my work schedule I will be posting updates each night, unless I am off in which I will do them earlier in the day. But I will be sure to comment in other best ofs during the day.

I will leave off today's intro with the song that in the 2 years it has been out has really grown in power and it's this is me trying from folklore. That song has made me want to cry along to it but also sing it, which keep in mind, if you know me, you know that I love to sing despite having a pretty messy voice. The amount of emotional turmoil and pain can be felt here, and I felt heard in 2022 because of it. However, I can also say that there will be tracks from albums released this year that also hit it for me, and they will be addressed later. For now, let's start with this

WORST SONGS OF 2022

So yeah, we're going to start with the worst of list. Again, I've had a horrible year. I should be allowed to start off by blowing off steam so there's no better way to do that than to drag all the bad songs this year. And that's pretty easy to do when 2022 was the weakest chart year since 2016. Everything moved at a snail pace and not enough good music got mainstream recognition. Here are the Top 20 WORST songs of 2022, the ones that bothered me enough to deserve the lashings.

20. Tate McRae - Uh Oh

I don't understand why you would chase the pop rock trend (and therefore stole radio play from Avril) just to then ditch it for this trap sounding mess?

19. Charlie Puth - I Don't Think That I Like Her

Trust me, it's rough trying to date. But this song is just immature and childish and a waste of Travis Barker

18. Daniel Seavey - Can We Pretend That We're Good?

It's sad that Why Don't We was forced into going on hiatus because of their lawsuit (I'll get more into that later). But I'm sus of the fact that Daniel decided to release music almost immediately after the announcement of the hiatus. It gives me Camila/Zayn vibes. The problem is - he's not the best singer. And the production on this song shows why. It turns his voice into a shrill unlistenable mess.

17. Imagine Dragons - Bones

This band continues to be an irritating mess. All of the **** I got for hating Radioactive a decade ago on here continues to be rectified.

16. AJR - World's Smallest Violin

The most pretentious pop band to exist right now continues to release pretentious garbage. Shocker

15. Cardi B, Kanye West & Lil Durk - Hot ****

Kanye alone kept me from wanting to listen to this and given that he has gone on to continue proving how disgusting of an individual he is, I'm ok with paying this crap dust.

14. Stay - The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber

Radio refusing to let go of this pair of douchebags all year makes me mad. I hope this is the last we here from Kid Laroi. Australia has so much better to offer.

13. Encanto - We Don't Talk About Bruno

So apparently we're going to make one of the worst Disney tunes a long lasting number one. Annoying. A stupid meme. Got all the success that Let It Go should have gotten. Just, go away. Crap.

12. Kodak Black - Super Gremlin

I hate how men can do almost whatever the **** they want and still get a second chance in the industry. Kodak Black being one of them, given that he literally raped someone years ago. This guy is a grade A douchebag. Hopefully he doesn't get another monster hit again.

11. Morgan Wallen - Wasted On You

Country radio wasted no time forgiving Mr. Wallen, given that he ended up dominating this year despite his controversy. And apparently because radio forgave him, we now have to deal with this garbage song again...bleh.

10. Imagine Dragons & JID - Enemy

Again, I'm tired of these annoying fucktards. I didn't ask for these feauxrock idiots to make an annoying screechy song for a tv show I will never watch. Go away.

9. YoungBoy Never Broke Again - Put It On Me

This idiotic rapper doesn't know how to put on a condom, given that he is the father of many children with MANY different baby mamas. He also is an idiot that bloats the charts every few months with a new mixtape and you can tell people have gotten tired of him because he gets worse and worse with each release. His nasal offbeat delivery would NOT make any woman want to put their ****** on him. He's just a gross idiot and I'm glad he is fading.

8. Gunna, Future & Young Thug - Pushin P

I don't understand why Gunna, a rapper with NO personality, managed to get a bigger album bomb in January than The Weeknd. Regardless, another stupid song about vaginas that straight men just blindly ate up. No thanks.

7. Future, Drake & Tems - Wait For U

The annoying placement of Tems on the hook is grating and that alone puts it this high on the list. Makes me want to change the channel

6. Glass Animals - Heat Waves

I legit will never understand why THIS was the 2021 leftover everyone decided deserved to have a second wind. They are just as pretentious as AJR except this song is just a watered down version of that pretending to be something more. 91 Weeks was WAY too long and I'm glad they will be a one hit wonder.

5. Elton John & Dua Lipa - Cold Heart

An absolutely boring remix that goes nowhere. Literally, I work at a grocery store (we'll come back to that in a bit) and this was already being played at one of the stores I worked at this year within months of being released. The fact that this completely cannibalized the superior Love Again makes me angry to this day.

4. Drake - Jumbotron **** Poppin

Anything from that misogynistic Her Loss could have made this list. But I'll go with two tracks. The first one being a solo Drake song with extremely annoying autotune and offbeat autotune at that. Pass

3. Russell Dickerson & Jake Scott - She Likes It

The worst country "hit" of the year. I put hit in quotations because this song only peaked at #63 on the Hot 100, yet it somehow charted for over 30 weeks because Billboard thought it was gaining on radio. This resulted in it charting at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100 year end list. That alone is one of the stupidest things to happen all year with the already stagnant chart. It's absolute BS that a song with those subpar stats made the year end list but not songs that charted in the Top 40 such as Light Switch by Charlie Puth and Betty by Yung Gravy. The Xmas songs taking up Year End List space is already an issue but Billboard being lenient with country radio gains is also another problem. And this song being as garbage as it is didn't warrant the radio gains that led to this mess.

2. Drake & 21 Savage - Circo Loco

Everyone on here wanted to give Taylor crap for blocking Drake from the #1 with her Anti-Hero remixes. But I was rooting for her, and this song is exactly why I was. To flat out defend Tory Lanez over Megan Thee Stallion and basically accuse the latter of being a liar is so gross and misogynistic. Taylor handed them their karma and the fact that Megan is performing one of her songs in dance says a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if Taylor low-key was doing what she did to stand up for Megan (in addition to wanting to hold the lead)

1. OneRepublic - I Ain't Worried

So again, I work at a grocery store. I work at one that has NOT changed their music playlist since July. That is FIVE months of torture from a playlist that is 90% inoffensive generic garbage, OneRepublic included. I already lost interest in this band years ago because their music continuously got more and more generic. They basically got themselves banished to grocery store playlists in the same way that Colbie Caillat is (trust me, if you heard Bubbly, you've heard everything you need to hear from that boring Splenda packet). So when this song randomly started becoming a hit this year, effectively also sabotaging Gaga's chances at a soundtrack hit, I was mad. I was already fed up with hearing these generic pop tarts at work and now I had to hear them in the Top Hits SongPop playlists for 2022 or KIIS FM - which I'd listen to in Lyft rides or outside circumstances like Supercuts. And just like the rest of their recent garbage, I Ain't Worried is just generic, inoffensive, corporate radio bullshit, soccer mom radio fodder, you name it. I'm not worried about a new OneRepublic album if this is the **** we will be getting.

And there you have it. My Worst Songs of 2022.

We will continue with more updates this weekend.

I'm dead :deadbanana4: :lmao:

I'm so surprised with this song's success, it's as basic as their last ...twenty?..droplets

Agree with Kanye and Cardi B being on here.

I love I Ain't Worried, Bones, Cold Heart, She Likes It, Enemy, Heat Waves, We Don't Talk About Bruno, and World's Smallest Violin.

Spoiler

I actually like these songs lol

I honestly don't know most of them or haven't heard in full, but I'm sure you're right lol. I like(d?) 1R and ID but their hits this year were... not it. Bones was cute though imo.

We Don't Talk About Bruno and Enemy should've been the top 2 :thing:

Cold Heart doesn't deserve to be on the list, it's cute.

Loving your takes on these :priceless:

Sorry to hear about all the sh*t you went through this year :hug:Hopefully 2023 can be better

Bones is actually decent... and my favorite from Mercury Act 2, which unfortunately says a lot about the album :fan: We Don't Talk About Bruno does not deserve to be here under any circumstances!!! World's Smallest Violin :mazen: I liked two of AJR's albums and then they took a nosedive, and this song going megaviral is so annoying. Same for Heat Waves except that's slightly tolerable. Hot Sh*t, Pushin P and double Drake in the "top" 5 :clap3::clap3: Kiii at I Ain't Worried. The song is super basic and, as you said, inoffensive, but I can totally understand why it's #1 since you work at a grocery store. Also annoyed that it became a hit instead of Gaga's Hold My Hand. Ready to see what's on the other lists :eddie:

Honestly without Daft Punk's One More Time sample on Circo Loco, i wouldn't even care to listen to it nnn. At the end of the day Megan still getting that royalities form Rich Flex. She's getting the last laugh :clap3:

Morgan, Charli & Onerepublic drags :clap3:

Best Recurrent Songs of 2022

In addition to my Top 100 (which I will start this week as I have a quieter work week), I also revisited a lot of songs this year. Here are my best recurrent songs of 2022.

BEST Recurrent Songs of 2022

20.  A Day To Remember - Paranoia

I felt like a savage villain listening to this - enacting revenge on those that screwed me over. Me likes

19. Echosmith - Get Into My Car

The one recurrent song I thank my job for introducing me to. This 2017 song is actually very cute and gives me the cool air euphoric vibes that I had with other songs I listened to from back then. Makes me feel at least better and it's one of the few songs from work I'm not sick of.

18. Paramore - Emergency

Missed my pop punk Paramore a bit.

17. Savage Garden - Crash And Burn

I've been doing a retrospective crownnote chart, 2000 to present, and this was a song I listened to for it. It may 22 years old, but the mental health aspect still holds true to me to this day.

16. Selena Gomez - Lose You To Love Me

A constant reminder to me that you can lose yourself while being blinded by feelings towards other, but you can still come back strong once you find yourself

15. Miley Cyrus - Party In the USA

This feel good song hits even harder now that I'm trying to find my place in a new city, even 3 years later.

14. Sum 41 - Pieces

"I tried to be perfect it just wasn't worth it" in a year where I tried so hard to keep moving and be amazing and win and yet I just lost over and over again. Their best song

13. Britney Spears - Lucky

When you're the happy energetic dude that is always in the good mood, it makes it hard to believe you could be anything else mentally. And that's why I relate to this song to this day. I'm glad Britney is finally free, over one year now.

12. Sia - Breathe Me

As a person with autism, I don't willingly support any new music from Sia following her Music film. But I will never EVER deny that Breathe Me is an amazing song. It's heartbreaking and when I'm at my lowest it reminds me to never be afraid to ask for help.

11. Daughtry - Home

This song has only gotten more emotional and nostalgic with age. When you move away from your hometown, it hits you more. (We will be addressing this theme more in the main Top 100 list)

10. Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

Euphoric and now nostalgic at the same time as this song has become a staple defining song of my 20s.

9. Aly & AJ - Rush

A great 2000s nostalgic reminder to be yourself no matter what

8. Paramore - Misery Business

I still feel like revenge is amazing when listening to this.

7. Kylie Minogue - Get Outta My Way

When you want the haters to go **** themselves, Kylie is here to make you feel like the **** still.

6. Puddle of Mudd - Blurry

Early 2000s post grunge rock at its best. This is the kind of song that only gets better with age.

5. Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do

I can't tell you how many times I wanted to get into my revenge Regina George zone over people that ****** me over this year while listening to this. And the video remains iconic to this day.

4. Linkin Park - One Step Closer

I'm a very energetic person so having a lot of anger built up because of this year meant I needed to expel in very energetic ways. This song gave me that punch I needed on multiple occasions.

3. Three Days Grace - Pain

Of all the songs I revisited while dealing with my mental health and other loss, this was the song that hit me the most again. After originally listening to this song as a teenager in the late 2000s, the lyrics of this song hit even harder after you go through so much trauma and depression. 16 years later this song feels like a hug when I need something to comfort me.

2. Ariana Grande - 7 Rings

I'm a Capricorn, but I'm also a confident person when I'm in a good stable normal mood. This song became an anthem for me everyday before I clocked in to work. I used the phrase "Ready to slay" starting with this song. This song just breathes power, fire, confidence, boss ****, pimp ****, king ****, everything. I needed that reminder this year that I'm a force to be reckoned with. I will continue using this song to pump me up as the years go by.

1. Taylor Swift & Bon Iver - exile

This was my favorite song of 2020 two years ago, and this year it sadly felt like art became reality for me. Just imagine trying to be friends with someone that you end up developing feelings for and then when they find out, they turn on you and then get you villainized, humiliated and embarrassed just for having feelings for you. I tried so hard to save something that was doomed and he treated me like complete garbage and ended up blocking me on everything. Even worse was that we worked together and he villainized me so badly that I had to transfer stores. One of my other friends also stabbed me in the back by telling him I liked him and then helped him get me transferred. So the emotional heartbreak and pain of this song felt real and it was the only song that really helped me cope with that situation. It's presence was felt all throughout 2022.

Tomorrow I'll have more updates

One step closer, Paranoia, pain, 7 rings, blurry, rush, run away from me :jonny6:

Good list overall. There's only a few I don't like. Surprised to see more rock songs charting although it makes sense with your personal descriptions.

My favorites are Kylie and Savage Garden overall.

exile + Misery Business + Pain + One Step Closer + Look What You Made Me Do + Blurry + Rush + Home + Lucky + Pieces + Party In The USA + Emergency :worship:
