  1. 1. What will the outcome be?

    • China
    • Taiwan will hold the fort for long enough for allies to save them
    • China will naturally absorb Taiwan. No war.

Who wins?

China should just make itself a place that Taiwan wants to be a part of.

But for this purpose, never underestimate a highly fortified island’s ability to hold off a superpower.

Taiwan will outlast China's current regime :santa:

I don’t know, all I know is that we don’t want China to use force to annex Taiwan bc it will literally be WW3.

I'm pro TAIWAN but they should also stop claiming CHINA..

Be their OWN Republic

There will not be war, but China might eventually absorb Taiwan through the threat of war.

Taiwan's only real path to independence is if the CPC collapses, but I don't see that in the next 20 years at least - so it's a long road.

I believe they're in a position where it's impossible for them to give up the claim because it would be the same as declaring independence from mainland China. But there's growing interest to have their own identity and be separate

The US is backing Taiwan and China just can’t face the U.S. yet or will they ever ? Mind you China has always lost most of the war they fought including the humiliating 2 Opium wars. Chinese military is not as advanced and strong as the U.S. plus Taiwan has an amazing Navy that they train for the sole purpose of defending the island.

Plus just like Russia, it’s not a war that the people care about so the moral of the troops and the population won’t be 100% which is always the most important factor when at war. The propaganda machine doesn’t affect young minds that already have an anti CCP sentiment and on top of that their platforms keep showing videos of weapons that have no purpose, only the most stupid people would think that these weapons stand a chance in a war and revealing what weapons you own on social media doesn’t seem to be a smart strategy. Anyway I have had a very strong anti CCP sentiment since the HK protests.

I think they already did this. They have filed a membership in UN under the name Republic of Taiwan (different from their official name Republic of China). But of course China(People’s Republic of China) has a veto power and denied their application.

Taiwan is absolutely legendary, all the men have done military service. Yes they're much smaller than China - but they will defend it to the bitter end.

The real war is propaganda however. China makes deals with and threatens all Taiwan's allies in order to isolate them. They convince the Taiwanese that, if they become a part of China, their economy will flourish and they'll have greater opportunities. I think this lie was having a great impact until they saw what happened with Hong Kong. There is no such thing as "freedom" under the Chinese Community Party, only control, surveillance and an utter lack of input into how the nation is run.

Needless to say, f*ck that. Taiwan is a progressive, forward thinking, democratic nation with marriage equality, fantastic industries and an exciting, proud culture. They will never give that up.

Taiwan is highly fortified and it’s natural landscapes would make it hard to invade but we will never know unless it happens and I pray it never does as it would be a global catastrophe. The only thing we can be sure of is they will never accept PRC as their ruler and their values won’t ever align.
