Mental Affects of Constant Bad News?

I’m sure there’s some clinical studies about this but has our collective morale just gone down because of current events? Seems like everyone is just barely holding on. Like every day there’s a new tragedy or something that makes us feel like the world is ending. How are you guys trying to cope and stay positive in your lives?

Personally I feel so lost, lonely, and directionless in life because of the state the world is in, it feels like what’s the point?

If you want me to be honest. If you cut social media from your life you WILL become a happier person.:hippo:

It might be hard because it’s so ingrained in us. It might be hard the first two weeks but it gets easier.

 Hope this helps:heart:

I know how you feel, I feel the same way. Guess most of us are in a similar position. It is harder than ever to switch off from it as well because of social media.

They say the world is ending everyday in the MSM but you go look outside of your window and everything stays the same. They wanna control you through emotions and they are so doing it!

that's why I stay off social media and avoid political threads on atrl

the truth is that the world has always been a mess, our times aren't really exceptional

Given the meltdowns of OTHs on this site, constant "bad" news can clearly be extremely damaging to one's mental health.

I try to focus on my friends, family, and alcohol to distract me from the world.

Maybe that’s why I’m feeling especially down lately :rip: I got into a fight with a really close friend recently and I don’t see our friendship moving further…. I also am trying to curb my alcoholism because I realize that I want to have a kid one day :rip: I’m a highly functioning alcoholic and I provide financial support to several people so nobody notices or ever calls me on it because I’m doing better than everyone I grew up with and most people I know

Idk where to turn, it’s giving maybe I need to go to India to find myself or something

During the pandemic I cut all mainstream media off social media cause my mental health was declining.

The way my head bounced back in a few days was insane and amazing.

I don’t watch the news anymore because the world is always ending in them, is too negative and I don’t need that in my life.

Oh I am sorry about that.  When friendships go sour it is really really hard.  I hope you give yourself the time to process your emotions healthily.  I do hope you can also develop a comfortable relationship with alcohol.  Sometimes a change of pace can be very helpful depending on your circumstance.

I think we all truly underestimate how long it will take to get over the shock of a world wide pandemic + Trump. 2016-2022 had been extra **** and we just all have tried to pretend that it’s fine, and always looking to the next year for a “change”…but that’s just not how it works tbh, like what…

We are not going to be ok for a while. Specially with the pending 2024 elections and etc, we just have to buckle down and find our own center and survive tbh. Idk what else we can do. :mazen:

It's especially hard when you move away from your hometown and it becomes extremely hard to see established friends or make new ones.

Social media even without the news makes you seem like you're not doing anything special. Like, everyone I know is getting married or having kids or getting promoted. Where as I'm literally still single and I deal with BS boy drama and never get anywhere romantically and I'm also just a courtesy clerk at a grocery store.
