I got treated worse because of the promotion

Hello everyone!

I have been working at the bank in the project management department for more than a year. I got a job here as a management administrator, I was actually running errands. If a bad situation happened in the department, then we had to handle it ourselves.

The year passed very quickly and a lot of things were done.

Relations with colleagues were good.

I am not very interested in communicating with them, but I have always maintained a dialogue with them.

A few weeks ago, information about the promotion was announced: I turned from an administrator into a manager, leaving 80% of my colleagues behind. Relations cooled sharply, moreover, colleagues began to come regularly with stupid proposals and claims that had never been voiced before. A couple of times I caught colleagues in the dining room, where they guiltily considered me to have gone home (that's why they didn't invite me to eat) and praised my jacket suits. And I also noticed that people are not particularly willing to help me. I am not the boss in relation to them, by the way.

I don't understand how to react to such changes and I don't understand their motives.

Maybe the promotion was not deserved? :biblio:

Don't act like you don't know why. You're banging your boss, aren't you?

Jealousy is a disease. Hopefully they can get well soon. :biblio:

It was completely unexpected even for me, to be very honest.

It's because we all thought that I would go into 80% of my colleagues and deal with more complex appeals and problems.

I clearly told the management that I did not want to deal with these issues and that I prefer large projects.

But I have all the knowledge and skills to deal with them, in addition, I had to work 2 times more than others.

You should start to acknowledge them when they do something good and try to make people feel more at ease around you, show that you support them.  Pretend to care about them a bit more in a way that removes the invisible hierarchy boundary that was established when you were promoted.  They are also most likely jealous, but showing them some humanity and kindness should improve your work relationships.

Who cares about these losers pop a bottle of Ruinart and enjoy it.

In the end colleagues don’t matter, they would have done the same thing or anything to get a promotion.

The best thing you can do is be respectful and carry on with your work and deliver excellence. Anyway congrats :clap3:

**** them. Do your job and you're not there to make friends. It ain't high school. Maybe they weren't good for you in the first place anyway.

Talk to each one of them 1-1 and ask where the issue is. It's all about communication, especially if you are a manager now (I understand you're not their manager but you're still on a higher position than most of them).

The jealousy is normal. Same thing happened to me when I was promoted to practice manager, people who I was cool with before the promotion all of a sudden hated me. It was mostly the older people, I guess seeing a younger person get promoted bothered them. Just keep doing your job, do not take **** from any of them and eventually they will get over it

Its normal honestly. Once I got promoted to manager my peers made a whole ass new chat group without me :rip:

You worry about you. They can stay mad.

do these pressed souls affect ur job, do u need dem to succeed in ur position?

if it starts to affect ur position, have a one on one with dem and see what the problem is

if nothing gets resolved, you probably will have to get HR involved

one thing i learned da hard way in a corporate setting is dat u can't be friends with no one

u come to do your job and leave it all behind when u clock out, u can be cordial but dats it, fraternizing is a no no
