Tips for Milan in December

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Milan (+ Lake Como and Bergamo) in a few days and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations  :bird:

Omg Bergamo :jonny6: the BEST place in the world if you ask!!! Feel free to DM me with all the questions you have.

don't go. it's cold. go to Sicily or better yet the Canaries :giraffe:

Always use condoms!

Posted

Clubs: Gattopardo, JustCavalli or Oldfashion (find promoters on Instagram and they’ll put you on the list so you can skip the line and just pay your entry)

Food: Try some Milanese chicken cutlets and Risotto (avoid touristy spots)

Take a walk down the Navigli for Aperitivo and there should also be Christmas markets around the city but the area around the Duomo is really pretty around that time.

Visit Castello Sforzesco as well. It’s a fun city if you do some research!

Also Bergamo Alta is absolutely stunning if you can go on a clear day

But during summer it's nice almost everywhere. Canaries are nice and warm all year round. I usually travel to northern countries during summer and southern places in colder months. Every holiday i go to is sunny and warm

I've been to Milan a couple times but I've never found it that exciting, although I have to try and explore more next time.

What's the best month for Canaries? I've heard it's rainy in some months! I would love to go there.

I went to Lake Como and Milan this year. Lake Como is the most beautiful pace I’ve ever been (along with Madeira). Make sure to check out some of the smaller towns around Lake Como like Bellamo if you have time and even doing some of the hikes. They’re genuinely incredible and reminded me of Studio Ghibli movies (just the way so much was left untouched). If you’re limited for time make Bellagio your focus though and go to Villa Melzi gardens.

In Milan I enjoyed Monumental Cemetery after some ATRLers recommended it to me which has some beautiful architecture. It was fun to just walk around the city and try different snacks. If you want a change from Italian food then I would recommend a visit to Chinatown which had some amazing Asian food. I also liked the urban park near Bosco Verticale which was very cool if you’re into modern architecture. I didn’t get have time to do Bergamo but passed it en-route to the airport and it was beautiful.

Here is a link to the thread I made if you want to look at some of the recommendations there too:

The islands differ between them slightly in terms of weather, even within the same islands (like Tenerife North and Tenerife South have weather differences), but in general they are sunny and warm all year round. Like 20 degrees minimum (day or night) and 30 degrees maximum for most part. You can go any time of the year. Just choose the island which suits you most. They are quite different in terms of landscapes and what they can offer.

Thank you! A close friend of mine has lived in Tenerife for 6 months and she lived in the rainy/cold area, but then she took a bus and went to the beach where it was sunny ?

She must have lived in Santa Cruz I'd imagine.

I've been to the Canaries several times. Fuerteventura is my favourite so far. In fact, it was my best holiday ever. But I was quite adventurous there, going off the beaten track the whole time. It's not a typical island with lots of comforts and entertainment.

Milano is the best, it’s not exactly the most scenic city when compared to Firenze or Roma, but it’s the most livable to me (a New Yorker).  I love hanging out in Brera, talking a walk through Giardini Montanelli, walking through il centro, etc.  If you have the budget, shopping there is the best because you can actually save hundreds or thousands on luxury goods by buying in Milano from a combo of tax-reimbursement and no import or shipping duties (I bought a Prada bag for 1.2k which costs 2.1k in the US).  Also check out Fondazione Prada and Navigli.  If you’re really bored, you can go to the modern areas of the city like CityLife or Porta Garibaldi.  There’s really not a lot you feel pressed to do aside from the obvious tourist spots near il Duomo if it’s your first time.

Also Milano has the biggest Filipino population in Europe, so if you like Filipino food, there are a few really good places to check out.  There’s even a Jollibee!

For Como, I’d recommend Varenna since you can just take the train 45mins-1hr to the town straight from Milano Centrale.  You can then take a super quick ferry ride from Varenna to most of the other major towns on the lake like Bellaggio, etc.

Bergamo is wonderful but quite small.  It’s more of a day trip IMO.  I’d also recommend checking out Bologna via the high speed rail if you have free time.

Milan is the most boring city in Italy (for a tourist). Unless you go there for the fancy luxury shops

Unless you’re shopping in Duomo, it’s not that expensive. Drinks, food and accommodation are all very reasonable. I was getting a litre of wine in central Milan for €10 :smitten2: It’s way cheaper than Paris or London.
