Why did Paula Abdul lie about surviving a plane crash?

I read about this story like YEARS ago and completely forgot about it until it suddenly popped into my head again? For some reason not many people know this story so here is a short back story.

Paula Abdul has been claiming since at least 2003 that she survived a plane crash shortly after the Spellbound era in the early 1990s, and that she took some time off afterward to recover from her injuries. The dates, circumstances, and other specifics have changed over the years, but the general outline she gives claims that she was flying from St. Louis to Denver when the plane she boarded on caught fire and was forced to land in a field in the middle of nowhere in Iowa. However, the supposed landing site would have been out of the way north for the purported flight path between those two cities... Paula stated; "I didn't have my seatbelt on, and I hit my head on the top of the plane, I withstood 15 cervical spinal surgeries and I had to take seven years off,"

In addition to the frequent changes in the narrative and other aspects of the story that don't add up, there's the fact that there is absolutely NO RECORD of this plane crash. No news stories from the time of the supposed crash report, and no National Transportation Safety Board records exist of any plane crash in that area within that time frame....

Abdul has since always claimed that she was able to use her "celebrity status" to keep the story under wraps and doesn't care if people believe her but is this story still not extremely vague? Like why did people sweep this under the rug. Especially considering how there is still no evidence of the plane crash event happening and absolutely zero records exist of any plane crash within that time frame in that area? :rip:

Same reason Robbie Turner lied about the Uber driver dying in a crash with her inside

it was a private plane? and pre-911 didn't people not care about recording everything?

I don't know why she would make all of this up unless she's some sort of pathological liar :gaynetcat4:

Oh I heard about that too :rip: Idk but I feel like you need to be a next level of liar to tell lies on this magnitude. Psychologically how can people even deal with that. This is why skepticism is always important tbh :chick3:

She wanted to call out of work for seven years.

I feel like the latter is the truth. There is an insane amount of evidence why this was not true.

For example. How she managed to go down in a flaming aircraft and get treated in a hospital without a single word leaking to the press? She was massive in early 1990s.

Odder still is that the National Transportation Safety Board’s  database listed no record of a plane crash in Iowa at any time between Abdul’s St. Louis and Denver-area shows in 1992. And even funnier is that Iowa isnt even on the aereal route between St Louis and Denver. Its 200km north of St Louis…:chick3:

And the plane crash allegedly happened on her tour in between St Louis and Denver dates but she literally did a performance in KANSAS on the night she allegedly crashed so it further makes this story look like a sham

the brain damage from the injury was too bad so she forgot all the actual details of the crash

The circumstances around the plane crash constitute an SCP and its antimemetic properties have allowed it to be expunged from all records and wiped from human memory... but Paula is immune to its effects :bloo:

I do wonder about this. Is it because they really didn't care about recording this stuff back then and when she went to hospital probably omitted the details about the plane crash?

then her landing in Iowa from St Louis to Denver still doesnt make sense because that is too far from the aerial route between St Louis - Denver

she had a concert for her spellbound tour in Kansas the day she "crashed" not in St. Louis so that doesn't add up either

and she actually released, toured and promoted an album 4 years after Spellbound but that flopped... there are many signs that this story is fabricated entirely

Yes but that wasnt before the crash if im not mistaken. A full break down of the flaws and remarkable things in the story can be read here, the article was updated in march 2022 so it is actual:

This lady lies about everything.

I’m wondering if she meant to say car crash, but the pain meds had her loopy so she messed up and said plane crash and from then on she just went with it because admitting to being heavily medicated was harder for her.

Ya it's possible she doesn't remember all the exact details or maybe truly believes there was a plane crash ... I have no idea

I love Paula but I often wonder about this as well :deadbanana2: There's no reason for her to lie about it but at the same time the narrative just has so many loopholes: she said she took like a decade off and had a lot of health issues so she took all those years off yet and came with Idol yet she released Head Over Heels and based on the performances she was in great shape:

It was reported Paula had an addiction to pain killers in the 00s so maybe the story came from around that time? I wouldn't be surprised if she truly believed the plane crash actually happened
