People like to feel pompous and important. "Look, we managed to get the World Cup". And then they get to hangout with athletes, models, singers etc all the fanfare the World Cup brings. The kii is that they're so bad at playing football they already got humiliated.

Since 2018 in gymnastics, they've hosted a World Championships, 3 World Cups, and a Continental Championships that I can think of off hand.
