8 years ago: Taylor made Hot 100 history with "Blank Space."

On 19 November 2014, Taylor Swift's "Blank Space," the second single from 1989, lifted 13-1 on the Hot 100. It became her second leader from the album (following "Shake It Off") and her third number-one overall (dating back to 2012's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"). With "Blank Space" dethroning her own "Shake It Off," she became the first woman in Hot 100 history to replace themselves at the summit (which still remains a solo record as of this writing).

"Blank Space" would spend seven uninterrupted weeks at the summit.

Oh wow I never realized that she’s literally the ONLY SOLO Female to ever accomplish this. That’s extremely impressive. :clap3:

No pop girl can ever make a song like Blank Space

That's just fact

Blank Space and Set Fire to the Rain are the song that can never be replicated

No wonder Taylor and Adele are the standard

Blank Space was bigger than As It Was. The only reason why it didn't spend more weeks at #1 was because it went up against the most well-rounded smash in Uptown Funk.

Taylor should release 1989 (TV) next. Blank Space (TV) would be a sure-fire #1.

I agree. It’s the first song of hers that really grabbed me. It’s so catchy. I like that she pokes fun at herself in it without being cringe and still being relatable to the masses. It’s a great visual as well.

Blank Space is probably the best-written massive hit that I can think of

"Cause you know I love the players and you love the game" was my favourite Taylor line for years :jonny5:

Blank Space was her cultural and commercial peak :jonny: Everyone was STANNING, you just had to be there

Looking back, that late 2014-early 2015 period was something special. It was cultural reset after cultural reset with smash hits like AATB, Blank Space, and Uptown Funk.

It's really crazy looking back at how the 1989 singles had to go against the biggest hits of the decade. The only songs to go #1 between SIO's debut and BB's peak were AATB, UF and SYA (#17, #1 and #25 decade-end, respectively)

It encapsulates teen youth and the fun and drama of it all.

Just like 22 gives you that youthful energy but Blank Space is IT.

Whew, pop perfection :clap3: Absolutely deserved all of its success. It's so perfect as it is that I feel like TV won't be up to par, though :weeps:

When she released it, I knew at that moment she had fully embraced the pop scene. IKWYT. was also a bop, but I feel like this song solidified her spot in the pop realm.
