umich Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Rihanna's "We Found Love" (feat. Calvin Harris) rose 2-1 on the Hot 100 this week 11 years ago, becoming her 11th number-one single and putting her in a tie with Whitney Houston for the third-most Hot 100 number-one hits among females (Madonna 12, Mariah 18 [at the time]). The song would spend 10 nonconsecutive weeks at #1 (briefly interrupted for 2 weeks by LMFAO's "Sexy & I Know It") and is currently eligible for Diamond certification by the RIAA (including over 5.5 million pure copies sold).
OnlyManInTheWorld Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 It was a surprise to me the song blew up like that. Remember it initially charted outside of top5 on iTunes and didn’t seem to be the monster in the making. The video literally changed everything. A Bad Romance 2.0 experience.

It was #2 on iTunes behind "Moves Like Jagger" on its first couple of days, and people were already calling it a flop because she couldn't get past Maroon 5 / Christina Aguilera Same thing happened with Diamonds a year later.
Ger Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 God, I remember the first time I heard it, I was OBSESSED, literally on repeat, that song is truly something special, EDM excellence. A classic. And yeah, music video helped a LOT, as it should since it's amazing.
ImsoLOUD Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) I wasn't too fond of WFL when it first dropped ironically. It is now one of my favorite Rihanna songs of all time. Queen reminded me to never doubt her taste a multiweek #1 without 800 remixes Edited November 14, 2022 by ImsoLOUD
Breakdown Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Yes, I stanned this is so hard, it was such a different sound, so fresh, I loved her style, I followed every step of this era.
Taemira Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 omg mr. know it all deserved to top the chart too
RobDeWittBukater Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 (edited) The CHOKEHOLD this music video had on me... I remember coming home from school and turning on MTV just in hopes of catching it. Around November, Lana's 'Video Games' was becoming a huge hit in my country as well, and Gaga and Katy were on their fifth and sixth single off their album respectively and still delivering epic high budget music videos and TV performances galore. Rihanna was number one for WEEKS on end here, just like in the US. What a time to be a pop music stan Edited November 14, 2022 by RobDeWittBukater
