Why is Northern Territory not a STATE yet?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Population - 250,000

Area - 1.42M sq.km

GSP - $26.15B

Per Capita - $107k

Darwin (Capital) - 150,000 Population

A very big area but sparsely populated.. but still almost half of Australia's/US' current smallest state while ~100k larger than Canada's smallest province population wise.. amazing economy as well while having a GLOBALLY RECOGNIZED and fairly big capital city of Darwin

So what prevents it to became a STATE??

Basic ass name. They should rename it 'Mauboy' in honour of the Get 'Em Girls songstress and make it the official State of Mauboy, Australia. :clap3:

One of the main reason why NT isn’t a state is because it can’t financially support itself.

Too sparsely populated I fear.

Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia... like where is the imagination? Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania are the trinity of Aussie state names. :alexz:

The Northern Territory needs to stand on its own two feet as a region that’s capable of having a prosperous economy without an endless injection of government funds before it worries about becoming a state.

I love the region and even lived there for a short time (in the Mataranka region, not Darwin) but it’s frustrating that it has so many things going for it (natural and historical) and it doesn’t seem to take full advantage of any of them.
