Ricardo1993 Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 I recently found out on twitter that Johnny Depp has a distant black ancestor from the 1700s. People on twitter were jokingly calling him a man of color but is he really? Anderson Cooper also has a distant black ancestor from farther back.
MotoPapi Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 No. He’s white. white people in the us love claiming their 1% Cherokee heritage when it’s convenient
State of Grace. Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) That's not how it works sis. Having a black parent/grandparent isn't the same as having black ancestors from centuries ago. Tldr; he's white trash. Edited November 10, 2022 by State of Grace.
Thinking Of You Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 He’s always been racially ambiguous to me. But no, one Black ancestor does not make him a person of color.
allforyou Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 He definitely looks ambiguous however he's white
est. in 90s Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) According to the One Drop Rule that many still follow to this day, he would be. That's why ppl need to stop following ODR. It's not only inherently racist but would allow a Johnny Depp to claim himself as Black/POC b/c of that one drop of Black blood from that ancestor no matter how ridiculous it would be. Erreur2 La Nature Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 This has to be the stupidest thread I have read in 2022
Monster Queen Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) All people here and on Earth share the same ancestor in Africa, we're all African! Edited November 10, 2022 by Monster Queen
sourprint Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 there was a white supremacist man who went on a tv show hosted by two black women and they unveiled his dna test results and he had like 3% african ancestry but looked white AF, so no jd isn't a poc just because he has a black ancestor. stupid ass take
Fanik Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 Yes isnt mariah black as well despite being white passing?
Moonlight Nation Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 13 minutes ago, Fanik said: Yes isnt mariah black as well despite being white passing? Mariah's father is a black man - completely different situation. She's 100% of mixed heritage and considers it an important part of her identity, especially after Mottola and Sony attempted their hardest to whitewash her to the masses. And even then, Mariah knows her privilege as a white-passing woman, and never caught herself in any tone deaf or racially insensitive controversies.

Aristede Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 From the 1700s? That was 300 years ago. Too far in the past to mean anything now. But it's funny to me to see the people who are called "white passing" on Twitter and things. Sometimes I'll think "Are we looking at the same person? They're clearly not totally white." To me, Mariah isn't really white passing. Especially in the 90s before she had her blonde hair. She doesn't look black but doesn't look completely white either.
Scars Posted November 10, 2022 Posted November 10, 2022 What's even 'racially ambigious' about that white man? I swear some of you see a white person that may not look like a lobuster after standing under the sun for 3 minutes and go "not european!".
