Isaiah Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 I hate to be “this person” but do we know where Mariah would rank among females without Christmas?

Analogies don’t matter. The reality is that Mariah owns Christmas, that’s how it is, so the numbers are what they are. That doesn’t take away from the impressiveness of it all
coolblue Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 those Mariah Carey numbers are bad.. I thought she'd be above 10billion+ by now the way her music slays during Christmas season

The christmas music contributes to her catalog but it doesn't give the real picture.. Celine can still sell out stadiums and arenas across the world without resorting to christmas music. So this is not an accurate metric for who the most relevant 80s/90s diva is.

But she did resort to Christmas music (and so did Whitney). Celine even has a Christmas #1 song that isn’t remembered now. Their Christmas music just didn’t take off like Mariah’s. And it does give an an accurate picture of Mariah’s success since every year everyone associates Mariah with Christmas now. Plus it’s such a myth that Mariah doesn’t get streamed outside of Christmas since she has good streams year round

Eminem debuted in 1996, proof of this is that tomorrow he will be inducted to the rock and roll hall of Fame. It's funny, here and on Twitter when people want to refer to Taylor they talk about the most successful artists that debuted this century because Eminem is the most successful artist of this century, and now that we talk about artists who debuted before 00 we are not going to take him into account either because it is not convenient, tremendous.

I joined this site as a lamb so I’ll always love Mariah, but it’s disingenuous to pretend like including it with her catalogue is fair when comparing her to 90s divas bc it’s a passive Christmas tradition at this point

The real picture of what? Mariah is more streamed than Celine. If the thread was about biggest touring acts ever, Celine would be there and Mariah wouldn’t. Some excel in fields others don’t. This really shouldn’t be news mariah is more streamed than Celine, Madonna, Janet and the like. Numerically speaking. Hell, Celine has a massive Christmas album herself. Would we remove it from her album sales tally? Edited November 5, 2022 by Bey_Rihstan

Babe, Celine has multiple Christmas albums with original music. The GP just wasn't here for it. Not to mention that Mariah has been out-streaming all of the other 80s/90s divas on global Spotify for the past month already anyway. She has consistently destroyed Celine/Whitney/Janet in recurrent streams Jan-Nov each year and recently overtook Madonna again. Across platforms and including Asian streaming she's far and away the most-streamed. Edited November 5, 2022 by suburbannature

Céline has exactly one Christmas Album And the Taylor Christmas song shade is funny when she has a Platinum selling Christmas EP that sells well yearly.

Celine Dion has three Christmas albums. Two are French from the 80s (one of which containing original music) and one in English in the prime of her career that contains original music. BnPac Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 I'm surprised to not see Eminem, Shakira or B. 2pac.
Jynx Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 No Madonna? What happened to the QOP, global, best selling female artist of all time and her 4 decades worth of streaming hits? Mariah, Eminem, Elton John. Legends with actual streaming hits.
EtherealCat Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 shakira has 11 billion streams, why is she not included?

But everyone still associates AIWFCIY with Mariah and it boosts her image. Even the GP knows the It's Time video and the "Mariah is defrosting" jokes and calls her the Queen of Christmas over Jesus. And even if you take away the 1 billion streams from AIWFCIY she's still easily ahead of Madonna, Whitney, Celine, JLo
