Iceland Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Researchers at Stanford University have transplanted human neurons into rat brains, seen them mature into hybridized brain circuits and then used them to influence the rodents’ behavior. The work marks an impressive step forward for neuroscience, and could see rat brains serve as living laboratories for the study of cognitive disorders. “The researchers show that the human neurons, when activated, interfere with the rats’ behavior,” said Dr Jürgen Knoblich, Scientific Director Austria’s Institute for Molecular Biotechnology, who was not involved in the research. “The human cells functionally connect to the rat brain. This is the reason why the work is so outstanding.” Pasca describes this as the most advanced human brain circuitry ever concocted from human skin cells, and says the platform is the first to offer behavioral readouts for human cells in this context. With the ability to control and observe the effects on the rats’ behavior, the technology opens up exciting new opportunities for the study of neuropsychiatric disorders. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2022/10/human-rat-brain-neuron.html

TheArgonaut Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Poor rats. Inb4 they develop mental illness
Literature Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Proof we have a software and not just hardware, cuz let me tell you a RAT is not on the same level as a human
sugarysunflower Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 Do they have to shut down their immune system in order to do so? I thought neurone tissue had microglia which are their own immune cells. poor rats
PrettyHurts Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 I know a few people they did this with already

Just wondering where nude mice evolved from.
