It's crazy when you put it in this perspective. Why was/is Madonna the exception in this male dominated field? Discuss. Every single one of those acts has been around for 30+ years and are still putting out some project or another (Michael Jackson has had a couple of posthumous projects released as have the Beatles post John Lennon). The Beatles were just that huge. In fact you could split Beatles' total four ways (105M each) and add Paul's solo stuff (112M) and he would still make the list at #6 (217M total). John Lennon would be close at #15. But of course Paul and John wrote the vast majority of Beatles songs and were considered the engine of their success so it'd be more appropriate to split that total in half, which would make Paul the 2nd best-selling artist ever with 322M, and John Lennon at #4 with 284M sales.
