Which season should I start with?

Not you not having watched none of Flanagan show, I propose a thread ban from the Horror thread @Reverse Warholian @lillavend3r @hypnodemiluv

Every season is a standalone story like AHS, only the cast remains the same, imo start from his first one, you can skip 'The Midnight Club'.

Go with:

-Hill House;

-Bly Manor;

-Midnight Mass;

-Usher.

Well, 'Gerald's Game' was trash. I'm not the biggest fan :skeleton:

The shows are much superior, trust me, everything AHS wanted to serve these past seasons but couldn't, you need to check :gaycat1:

I loved this show, I think is my fave of Mike behind Hill House. The stories were entertaining and seeing the characters get what they deserved was really good

Just finished episode 7. I have only 1 episode left

I have to say that this show has something completely unique no other show has

Almost ALL the main characters are COMPLETELY UNLIKABLE.

I completely agree!

Perhaps the most solid series from Flanagan. Extremely cohesive and consistent, although it lacked the heart and twists that his other series had, but still absolutely thrilling and with more dark comedy than his past entries.

Remarkable that he learned that long monologues aren't necessary, and the writing in several episodes was outstanding (Roderick's speech about lemonades, Griswold's about ideas, the dialogue between Verna and Madeline, and Madeline's short monologue in the last episode, pure excellence). :jonny:

Carla Gugino STOLE the entirety of the series. Her campaign for an Emmy is a must. Truly a Queen, had me gagged episode after episode. :jonny:

Still Midnight Mass remains the best from Flanagan, despite the monologues. And sorry but the amount of Midnight Club slander is just...

Final episode was kind of a letdown tbh

Midnight Mass is still the superior

Madeline not giving up and trying everything possible to fight, trick, and bargain with Verna up until the bitter end was pretty fun to watch. Both adult and young Madeline stole the show for me.

Wow, I finished the last three episodes last night and they really elevated the series from good pulpy camp fun to extremely high quality meaningful ART.  I have to bump my initial ranking up to a 12/10.  This just about touches MM and HH :clap3:

I loved seeing Madeline and Roderick's arc come together in the past and present.  The big betrayal in the deposition was fantastic, as was Madeline's confrontation with Annabel afterwards.  "You ******* simpleton" :jonny5: Rufus' ending :jonny5: All the Cleopatra and ancient Egypt references leading to Madeline's ending :jonny5:

The writing was ******* phenomenal.  I actually like Mike's monologues, but the fact that they were used more sparingly in this show made them hit all the more.  Roderick's lemon monologue was excellent, Madeline's final monologue completely reframed the whole show and forced me to think about things from their perspective, but I think my absolute favorite was Verna's to Madeline, when she told her: "You're a collection of impeccable elaborate masks in orbit of a stunted heart."  WOW :jonny3:

I never really hated the other Usher kids, but Frederick was so awful by the end that his demise was especially delicious.  Tamerlane throwing the light fixture and hitting Juno in the audience when Juno was just trying to be supportive made me scream :lmao: And I really thought there was going to be a twist and that Lenore wasn't actually an Usher (hence Morella's "cheating" storyline), thus allowing her to live, but.....

As a young person, the overarching theme of the older generations creating all these messes (housing crisis, debt crisis, drug crisis, global warming), living frivolously, and leaving the problems for the next generation to fix hit really hard.  And yet, I couldn't help but be swayed (a little bit) by Madeline's final monologue.  Kale salad is available.  We just don't ******* buy it.

Overall, just spectacular.  A real return to form for Mike after Midnight Clunk.  I really hope this finally gets him the recognition he's deserved for so long at the Emmys.  Carla, Willa, and Mary absolutely MUST be nominated.  However, I fear that after Hamish and Samantha's snubs for Midnight Mass (inarguably the two best performances across all of Mike's shows) the snubs will continue.

Finally finished and really liked it:clap3:

watching some wrap up videos and it really is a lot richer than I even realized on first watch.

Spoiler

So much of the discouse is about "who" Verna is which is kinda annoying. Like it's not obvious and it's not supposed to be that like she's Death or Satan or a God or something, I'm kinda thinking a composite version of those + maybe even personified version of "Luck"

Midnight Mass (9.5/10 ) > Usher (8.5/10 > Bly (8.5/10) > Hill House (8/10) :giraffe:

Is that even meant to be a mystery? It’s going in order of the siblings from the youngest to the oldest.

How's the monologues? Is it as bad as Midnight Mass's?

There are hardly any monologues at all.  Only 3 through the whole thing, I think.  And 2 are in the finale.
